Will a regional BZH domain appear?
Brittany is an old French province with rich traditions and a special language. The idea of creating a regional domain came to the inhabitants of the peninsula two years ago, when Catalonia achieved the creation of its own domain CAT. This inspired many other independent regions that are part of large states, including Brittany. Then a group of independent users made a petition and posted it on PointBZH.com. More than 15 thousand people signed up for the online appeal, and as a result, a committee was created to work on the project.
In preparing documents for the committee, the experience of similar projects using the GAL (Galicia - Autonomous Region in Spain) and CYM (Wales) domains is used. A presentation paper advocating for the creation of the BZH domain is due in late December this year. Then the preparation of the official ICANN application will begin. It is important that the authors of the project enlisted the support of the Prime Minister of France. As for financing, while the money for organizational expenses comes from the provincial budget, and if everything goes well and the idea of creating a domain is approved by ICANN, it is planned to turn to private companies for financial support.
The plans of the project managers are simple and clear: the BZH domain is designed to disseminate and support the cultural traditions and language of Brittany and to be a support for the inhabitants of the province, the project consultant Matthew Credo emphasized.
