AMD released a streaming processor
FireStream 9170 - this is the name of the latest streaming processor released by AMD. The device is based on the ATI graphics chip, made by the 55-nm process technology and containing 320 cores. Performance "pebble", according to official specifications , is 500 gigaflops - that's a lot! The power consumption at the same time does not exceed 150 W, so that the processor can be placed in the chassis even with a very dense "building". By the way, the processor itself is placed on a special board, accompanied by 2 GB of GDDR3 memory. The board has a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and can be used on computers with both Windows and Linux.
Together with the FireStream 9170, AMD will distribute the corresponding SDK. This will happen at the beginning of the coming year. The cost of the set will be 1999 US dollars, which is not enough, given the performance and potential features of the new product.
