Business model

A funny business model was discovered on the website of one developer : the initiator published the idea and has the opportunity to implement the planned project, but before he starts, he needs to collect some free donations. Interestingly, does this approach already have its own name? To date, my favorite business model is called freemium (a hybrid word from free + premium), but this one is also nothing.
