Cisco patches holes in its wireless equipment

Cisco Systems has released two sets of “patches” patching vulnerabilities in their software for wireless networks.

In today's security bulletin, Cisco said that their Wireless Control System, or WCS, contains multiple vulnerabilities that could disclose information, increase privileges, and gain unauthorized access to the network.

WCS is used in conjunction with Aironet access points, wireless LAN controllers and wireless location devices, providing tools for planning and designing, system setup, position tracking, security monitoring and wireless network management.

Vulnerabilities are affected by WCS versions prior to 4.0.96.0.

In a second warning, Cisco announced to IT managers about multiple vulnerabilities in wireless LAN controllers, routers, and access points that could allow a remote user to cause a denial of service, obtain information, change an access control table, and finally gain administrator privileges.

Cisco encourages its customers with vulnerable products to urgently install new patches, links to which can be found in the previous section.
