J&P: the volume of the mobile content market will be $ 390 million
Researchers at J'son & Partners examined the state of the mobile content market in Russia and made forecasts for its development. According to them, in 2006 the industry expects a 30% increase to $ 390 million.
The concept of “mobile content” in the country is already 6 years old. In the first years of its existence, and especially in 2003 and 2004, this market grew extensively, which was a result of the constant influx of new mobile users. Prosperity was promoted also by inexpensive advertizing on TV. However, in 2005, the business suffered a consumer confidence crisis, which, according to experts, led to some stagnation. Among the reasons that caused a loss of trust in content providers, the low level of their services is indicated: the ordered tunes sometimes do not reach, and those who have arrived do not always please with their quality. In addition, there is the phenomenon of mobile piracy, which also does not stimulate demand.
In 2006, as already mentioned, the mobile content market in the country will rise by 30%. The main drivers of growth, the researchers called the increased demand for more “heavy” multimedia content, as well as the development of mobile Internet and the conduct of Call TV - voice services in media projects. In the "Big Three" of mobile services, highlighted by the growth rate, J&P puts forward content in media projects, music (realtones, polyphony) and entertainment (Java games) with voice services.
At the same time, the structure of the mobile services market is characterized by an increase in concentration and specialization among content providers. Content operators are starting to play more actively - as are the “new” market participants: copyright holders and media companies. But at the same time, it was the operators who called J&P the key players in 2006, since they introduced new billing schemes (WAP-clicks), invested in promoting VAS and content, reformed portals and introduced new conditions for working with content providers, contributing to the formation of an aggregator services market in Of Russia.
Mobile content providers themselves are about 200 in the country, and their top ten account for about 75% of the total market revenue. In 2006, the strategy of these companies was generally characterized by investments in user loyalty, regional expansion, the development of WAP as a promotion channel, and a more precise positioning of its activities.
According to the forecasts of researchers, in 2007 the market will grow by 13% due to increased demand for portal content of operators, “cross-platform” with the Internet, as well as specialization of content: applications for corporate clients and interest-based content, in particular. At the same time, direct access to consumers will increase the role of copyright holders and media companies in the market.
