UN: Internet users in the world more than a billion

    The number of Internet users in the world for the first time exceeded 1 billion people, ITAR-TASS . These data are provided by the “Report on the Information Economy,” compiled by the UN Conference on Trade and Development.

    According to this document, by the beginning of 2006, 1 billion 20 million 610 thousand people had access to the Network. Compared to last year, the current one grew by 19.5%. In terms of the number of Internet users, the USA leads with 200 million Internet users, followed by China (111 million Internet users) and Japan (85.29 million).

    In Russia, the number of Web users at the end of 2005 was 21.8 million, an increase of 17.8% over the year. According to this indicator, our country is in 11th place in the world and first among the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS. Following it are Ukraine (4.5 million) and Belarus (3.39 million).
