Web stepped over 100 million websites

Monitoring company Netcraft announced that it has overcome a historic milestone: the other day, the number of sites on the Internet has exceeded 100 million . True, slightly less than half of all regularly update content.

Netcraft analysts believe that the explosive growth in the number of web resources that has occurred over the past two years is due to the fact that the Internet has been actively developed by bloggers who are given every opportunity to organize a simple magazine site. Another reason is the opportunity to make money on parked domains using contextual advertising.

Netcraft started monitoring in the distant August 1995. Then the Internet consisted of 18957 hosts, and the most popular web servers were NCSA (57%), CERN (19%) and a new product called Apache (3.5%).

The first million sites on the Internet were registered in April 1997. Ten million - in September 2000, and by May 2004 the number of sites had reached 50 million.
