Google completes successful inbox experiment

In 2014, the Gmail developers were surprised by the release of the experimental Inbox application . It works with the usual Gmail box, but differs in numerous innovations specifically for smartphones. Senior Vice President Sundar Pichay told the blog that the Inbox "focuses on what really matters."

Inbox mercilessly removed Gmail’s ten-year-old junk and wrote a clean, neat application from scratch with performance-oriented tools: convenient gesture control, preview attachments in the body of the letter, and so on.

Now the experiment is completed. It was successful, and therefore the company is no longer needed. All testers can go to Gmail.

For four years, Inbox was a test site for new features like Smart Reply, which subsequently got into Gmail, especially with the latest update of Gmail (probably the inbox closure associated with it).

So many functions of Inbox have been transferred to Gmail that this application has lost its individuality. In fact, it has already merged with Gmail, and the management has decided that the Inbox experiment has successfully completed its task - and it can be completed .

Application support ends March 31, 2019.

Probably, Google will continue to experiment with the mail interface. But now they will not be held in a separate Inbox application, but in some other way. Perhaps through A / B testing new features directly in Gmail.

To help users, Google has prepared a guide to transition from Inbox to Gmail .
