Minister of Communications of Russia: in regulations, you need to "clean out" Western standards for software

Probably, we are talking about the Times New Roman font and file formats. The

policy of import substitution in software for state enterprises in Russia continues, Interfax writes . Now the head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Nikiforov, has demanded that the hot iron be removed from the jurisdictional acts of the requirements that force state officials to use foreign software instead of domestic software.

“Over the past decade, a huge number of documents have been adopted, which explicitly state, in fact, such indirect use of certain foreign products. All this needs to be cleaned, ”Nikiforov said. According to the minister, this refers to, for example, fonts and file types.

With current regulations, the transition to domestic products in the field of software technology is difficult. “It was such a short-sighted policy, when we set ourselves standards for the use of foreign products,” said Nikiforov.

One of the standards for electronic document management for officials is the .doc format and the Times New Roman font. Now this font is used everywhere, including its Cyrillic spelling. Replacing the standards and the requirement to change the font to any other, domestic "production" may cause known compatibility problems.

Apparently, changing standards is a long process. But smartphones with domestic OS will appear this year.. True, the development of domestic mobile OS is not from scratch, based on the OS Sailfish. The operating system interface will be translated into Russian, the ecosystem of applications will expand, porting various popular programs. In the area of OS security, there will be practically no improvements.
