Paying customs duty for online purchase will be much easier.

January 9, 2019, the pilot project of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Russian Post” is launched to remotely withdraw customs duties on goods from foreign online stores, Kommersant reports .

According to the order of the Ministry of Finance of December 28, 2018, “the authorized operator performs customs operations with goods purchased for a personal user, on behalf of and on behalf of the buyer,” which should increase the convenience of paying the duty to the user.

    How does this system work?

The Post of Russia will interact with the electronic system of the Federal Customs Service (FCS), where it will send information on each international shipment, including personal data of the buyer. FSUE will also take into account and indicate the total weight and value of the goods that the buyer purchased for the calendar month.

The buyer will be able to pay the fee when placing an order on the website of a foreign online store. To do this, "Mail of Russia" in conjunction with the FCS have developed a special software package. The process of payment of the fee will be identical to the payment of purchases by bank card online. “We expect that the introduction of a simplified procedure for collecting duties will make the process of acquiring goods in foreign online stores as comfortable as possible and will reduce the time for customer service in post offices,” commented the representative of the Post of Russia.

The Chairman of the National Association of Distance Trading, Alexander Ivanov, expressed the opinion that in the near future a rise in prices for international shipments, a drop in the quality and speed of delivery, is inevitable.
