The heirs-owners returned the work of the Strugatsky brothers to free access
The heirs of the brothers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky returned all the texts of their books to the official website dedicated to the work of science fiction writers, and also refused to attempt to remove their works from free access to other sites. This was announced by the son of Boris Natanovich - Andrey Strugatsky on his Facebook page.
In one old song it was sung: “And in the struggle with the green serpent, the serpent wins!”.
That's the same with us: we tried to fight piracy on the Internet, but alas, piracy won! Law-abiding sites complied with our request to remove the book Strugatsky of free access, but, unfortunately, there are still a myriad of resources absolutely unabiding, and overcome them, alas, it is impossible ...
And therefore let announce the following verdict:
the decision of Mary Arkadyevna and Andrei Borisovich Strugatsky texts ABS returned free access to the official website of the Strugatsky brothers.
The works of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky were withdrawn from free access on the official website by their heirs, Andrey Borisovich and Maria Arkadyevna Strugatsky, in May 2014.
Here we close access to the full texts, first of all, precisely out of respect for [...] real fans and connoisseurs of the Strugatskys, who understand what intellectual work is and what intellectual property is. It is unfair when some people pay for the book, while others take it for free.
At the same time, the children of the writers began to struggle with pirated copies of works on the Internet in the ABS, which they lost.
After the death of Arkady, Boris Strugatsky was the only copyright holder of their joint works. The younger of the brothers never spoke out against the free distribution of his books with Arkady, but in 2008 he signed a petition to tighten the respect for copyright in Russia, which was sent to the country's president. After his death (he died on November 19, 2012) Boris Strugatsky did not leave clear instructions on how to deal with his legacy, which gave his son and niece a moral right to try to stop their free distribution of books with her brother.
Restoring free access to files on the site Strugatsky is extremely important for fans, since, according to Boris Strugatsky himself, the texts posted there were canonical:
