Dell Technologies Webinars: All the Details of Our Tutorial

Hi friends! Today's post will not be long, but hopefully useful for many. The fact is that for quite some time, Dell Tehnologies has been conducting webinars on brand products and solutions. Today we want to briefly talk about them, as well as ask a respected Habr audience to share their opinion on this matter. Immediately an important remark: this is a story about training, and not about sales.

We have been conducting webinars for quite some time, but it was in the last couple of years that the format has settled down and everything has taken shape in a full-fledged separate area of activity. There is even a special section with webinars on the official Russian site of Dell Technologies. Now it is not as noticeable as we would like, but we are already working on it. So you don’t have to waste precious time searching, right awayshare the link .

By topic, all webinars are divided into 7 categories: storage systems, cloud solutions, data protection, converged (and hyperconverged) infrastructure, servers and networks, client equipment. The seventh category is called “professional services”. If everything else is clear by name, then perhaps a little explanation is needed. These webinars are not about technology, but about the services that Dell Technologies provides its customers: warranty service, service support, deployment, modernization services, and so on.

Also, these 7 categories can be divided into two areas. Six of them are fully Dell EMC competency and solutions. And one of them, called “client hardware,” is more of a webinar on Dell professional hardware. Here we are talking about Precision desktop and mobile workstations, Latitude business laptops and, for example, Latitude Rugged rugged devices for working in the most extreme conditions.

Webinars last for the most part about an hour, with an estimated duration always announced in advance so that viewers can plan their time. They are led by Dell Technologies staff members. Sometimes, when it comes to launching products and solutions based on the hardware of partners, representatives of partners can also act as speakers. So, for example, it was relatively recently with Microsoft and VMware.

Speakers are not marketers and sales managers, but direct product specialists or even system engineers who are deeply immersed in the topic and can answer almost any viewer's questions. Actually, this is exactly why our webinars are worth watching live. But if suddenly it didn’t work out, then this is not a problem. You won’t be able to ask questions, but you can review everything in the recording for virtually unlimited time. The oldest webinar currently posted on the Dell Technologies website dates back to December 15, 2017.

By the way, in addition to very detailed presentations, speakers prepare additional materials for their speeches: detailed specifications of freshly announced products, compatibility tables and other useful things. All this can also be downloaded both during and after the performance. At this point, let me once again remind you that webinars do not have the task of selling anything. The main task is to tell how everything works, if possible explain why everything is done this way, show key advantages and, as a whole, give maximum useful information to specialists who are interested in our technology and our solutions.

Especially for you, we pulled one of the latest webinars from the system. This is so that you can watch the webinar right here, without leaving anywhere from Habr and not registering anywhere. In it, Sergey Gusarov, a network solutions consultant, demonstrates the process of creating a network factory, automating the use of network settings for server connections and the basic steps for working.

Historically, we use BrightTALK as a platform for conducting webinars. We don’t plan to switch to something else, because in general the system suits us, plus this is our global partner.

Accessing webinars is extremely easy. You simply go to the section with them on the official website of Dell Technologies , select a webinar and go through a very quick registration. Next - you can watch everything that interests you and pre-register for webinars that are planned for the future. We tried to simplify the registration form to the maximum.

Perhaps the only thing that can confuse the new webinar viewer is the need to indicate your mobile phone. However, we will by no means ever call him with any suggestions. Well, and what is there to be kept secret, at the moment no one is stopping the new user from simply driving random numbers. By and large, the same can be done with other fields (except e-mail), but we, of course, ask you not to do this, because understanding which people watch the speeches of our speakers and in which companies they work is very useful for internal performance analysis and further topic planning.

As for the frequency of webinars, here we came to the format “1-2 videos per month”, although at first the speeches were more frequent. Reducing the frequency allowed the speakers to better prepare and work more deeply on topics. Well, for a month, regular viewers manage to get a little bored, let's say, and watch webinars with great interest.

It turns out that at this moment we talked about the webinars themselves. It remains only to answer the main question: why did we bring them here to Habr? In fact, everything is simple. The fact is that it seems to us that this is where the most IT specialists who are interested in topics covered in our webinars can be interesting, not only for general cognitive purposes, but also for the practical application of the knowledge gained.

In addition, if the company in which you work already uses Dell and Dell EMC equipment, then webinars are also an excellent channel for communicating with our most experienced and specialized specialists. It’s quite difficult to “get” them on social networks or through technical support, but not everyone is ready to go to conferences and forums for this.

And, of course, we fully welcome absolutely any feedback. In the polls below you can tell us about your general interest in the topic and evaluate the quality of information, and in the comments you can safely write any detailed opinions regarding webinars: in your opinion, they are interesting or not very interesting; what is worth adding and what to remove; how to make them better; which topics to pay closer attention to and so on.
