CTT in server solutions - what does it look like?

Like this. This is part of the fans that turned out to be redundant and were removed from twenty servers in a test rack located in the DataPro data center. Under the cut - traffic. Illustrated description of our cooling system. And an unexpected offer for very economical, but a little fearless owners of server equipment.

The cooling system of server equipment based on contour heat pipes is considered as an alternative to a liquid system. Comparable in efficiency, it is cheaper to implement and operate. At the same time, even in theory it does not allow fluid leaks inside expensive server equipment.

Last year, our first experimental rack was mounted in the DataPro data center. It consists of forty identical Supermicro servers. The first twenty of them with a standard cooling system, the second twenty - with a modified one. The purpose of the experiment is to test the applicability of our cooling system in a real data center, in a real rack, in real servers.

I apologize for the quality of some photos. Then they didn’t bother much, but now there is no way to redo the process. Also, many photos are vertical. Like the hero of this publication, the server rack.

At the top of the rack are the usual servers. At the bottom there is a heat exchange bus with clamping devices for unusual, (almost) fanless servers. Fans were left only for cooling the memory. Heat is transferred from the processors to the heat exchanger using our loop heat pipes. And from the heat exchanger, the heat through the liquid bus goes somewhere else.

It could be street adiabatic. These are placed on the roofs of buildings. Or next to the buildings.

Or maybe, for example, a heating system. Or an eco-farm for growing vegetables. Or a warm outdoor pool. Or some other figment of your imagination. Requiring a coolant temperature of 40-60 ° C.

The stand assembly looks like this.

View of thermal interfaces. No need to be scared, this is just the first revision.

Even more severe look. Yes, this is Made In Russia. :)

The second revision will look noticeably less severe. Maybe even a little pretty. But this is a topic for another article.

For those who are interested in the topic of cooling (including server) computer equipment, I remind you about our social networks VKontakte and Instagram . In them, a certain amount of cognitive video content is expected to appear soon. Do not allow yourself to miss.
