Music on Cosmonautics Day

Traditionally, on April 12, I post in the social. networks the song "Fire in the Sky", one of my favorite on the space theme and perfectly suitable for the celebration of Cosmonautics Day. But this is far from the only excellent composition on a cosmic theme. Music can change our state, make us happy, sad, or deep in thought. I propose to celebrate this Cosmonautics Day with a trip to the cosmic “semi-abstract world insensitively constructed by generations of composers” (Strugatsky brothers).

    Kristoph klover

Two thematic videos that I traditionally publish are Kristoph Klover, 2004 collection of To Touch The Stars.

“Fire in the Sky” not only tells the shortest history of astronautics, but also paints a global picture from the historical aspiration to space to the need to move up today and tomorrow.

But this song is going well on October 4. The world was dull, hopeless, and here, with its companion of the USSR, humanity vigorously kicked the future.

And here is the whole album , other tracks are also interesting.

    Carbon based lifeforms

When I first heard the compositions of this Swedish duet, I fell in love with the ambient genre as such. And a lot of their tracks are dedicated to space. Personally, I like Comsat the most, judging by the audible negotiations, this is the golden era of shuttles, the 80s, when they were still launching telecommunications satellites.

And in Central Plains formally there are no direct references to outer space, but personally this composition gives me a very clear picture of a starry summer night outside the city.

And the absolutely delightful track Abiogenesis, in which the girl reads the Drake equation, which allows to calculate the estimated number of civilizations in the galaxy.

    Astronaut ape

Astronaut Ape (Oleg Belousov) has an album A Little Closer To The Stars with the track He Was The First about Gagarin’s flight, another must hear on April 12.

There are also compositions about the first satellite and modern astronautics with negotiations at the docking of the Soyuz.

    The ubiquitous Apollo

A lot of space music compositions use the same negotiation samples from the Apollo program - the start of the eleventh and its landing on the moon, as well as the accident of the thirteenth. They are so common that sometimes they even bother. But there are wonderful specimens that I want to share.

Exxassens has an abstract picture of the Apollo program in Spiders on the Moon.

And Synth.nl has a whole Apollo album , telling both the history and the course of the Apollo missions. Personally, the Reentry track, which talks about the braking of a ship in the Earth’s atmosphere (the video footage from Gemini, but it’s not scary), most of all “catches me”.

And if everyone knows the phrase about the first step of man and the leap for mankind, then longer quotes are rare. Z-Arc made the musical accompaniment of a rather long process of access to the lunar surface.

    Abstract paintings

It seems to be not designated as directly cosmic, the Serenity composition from Brian El gives me clearly the pictures of orbital maneuvers. Truss structures are revealed, the reactor is turned on, electroreactive engines light up with a deadly glow, and a giant ship goes to another star system.

But in the Fall From the Stars from God is an Astronaut a spaceship definitely lands. Before the mind’s eye, the landing order of the Soyuz - the separation of the compartments, the controlled descent, the introduction of the main parachute, and even the operation of the soft landing engines, reflected in the sudden finale, flashes through.

    For astronomical observations

What does starry night sound like? Probably, as Andrei Klimkovsky portrayed it in the album “Music of the Celestial Spheres”. Seriously, I turned it on repeatedly, uncovering the telescope in the evening.

And here is an alternative look from Suduaya. Indeed, snow, stars and the rotation of the vault of heaven.

    Quite classic

Long before the advent of electronic music, at the beginning of the 20th century, Gustav Canvas wrote the symphonic suite “Planets”.

And, of course, thanks to Solaris, the prelude in B minor in F minor now has clear cosmic associations. In electronic processing by Eduard Artemyev, she has the name "Listening to Bach (Earth)"

    Unfading

Some compositions have become a real classic, probably known to everyone.

14 minutes before the start, it’s “on the dusty paths of distant planets”.

    Final Countdown by Europe.

But this hymn from "Moscow-Cassiopeia" is an excellent appeal to be better.

    David Bowie - Space Oddity.

And traditionally seeing off the astronauts at the Soyuz, Grass at Home, which in 2009 became the official anthem of Russian cosmonautics.

Recently I heard a totally fantastic cover of her and “Nothing Else Matters” performed by Rock Privet. The mixture of the two songs gave rise to a surprisingly lyrical result.

    Always with you

Above are only the most beloved or important space songs. Because if you do not stop, then this publication will grow to hundreds, if not thousands of videos for several days of listening. And there is an option to do the same in just a few paragraphs - give a link to Internet radio. Personally, I’ve been listening to Soma.fm for several years where you can find theme stations.

For compositions with samples of space negotiations there is a special Mission Control channel .

A common channel with electronics and ambient is Space Station Soma .

The slower option is Deep Space One .

Absolutely Slow and Abstract - Drone Zone .

    Conclusion

I repeat once again, here is only the most beloved by me or, subjectively, the most significant cosmic music. Add your favorite space compositions in the comments, have a party on Cosmonautics Day!

    Happy Cosmonautics Day!
