News of the week: main events in IT and science
Among the most important are the fall in prices for RAM and SSDs, the launch of 5G in the USA and South Korea, as well as the quick test of fifth-generation networks in the Russian Federation, hacking of the Tesla, Falcon Heavy security system as a lunar transport and the emergence of the Russian Elbrus OS in general access.
5G in Russia and the world
Fifth generation networks are gradually starting to appear in different countries, moving from the preparation stage to the stage of full-fledged work. This happened in South Korea , where 5G was launched at the national level. And although only owners of the Samsung Galaxy S10, equipped with a full 5G communication module, can connect to this network, other devices from other manufacturers will soon appear on the market.
In Russia, operators only offer to launch 5G testing in Moscow and a number of other regions . Unfortunately, the Ministry of Defense is not yet ready to transfer frequencies to the cellular operators in the main operating range of 3.4-3.8 GHz.
In the US, 5G is launched in test mode, a new type of communication will only work in only a few areas of large cities. The launch was carried out by AT&T. Network bandwidth - up to 1 Gbit / s.
Hackers managed to force Tesla to go into the oncoming lane
Researchers at Tencent Keen Security Lab managed to hack the Tesla Model S 75 firmware. The hack consisted of stealing the steering wheel, as a result of which the autopilot managed to get into the oncoming lane. This is due to an attack on machine vision. Tesla uses neural networks in machine vision systems, so the reception worked and the electric car obeyed the crackers. A patch has already appeared, the vulnerability is closed .
Flying to the Moon on Falcon Heavy
As President Trump’s administration insists that NASA move more actively for its important mission of flying to the moon, the agency has to accelerate . On Monday, NASA chief Jim Brydenstein said that if SLS fails to prepare for the deadline (2024), then you can fly to the moon using the Falcon heavy rocket with the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage system built by the United Launch Alliance.
Cellular switches to domestic encryption
Despite the fact that a complete ban on foreign cryptography has not yet been introduced on Runet, the corresponding regulatory framework has already been adopted for mobile communications . From December 1 of this year, two orders of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Communications (No. 275 and No. 319) come into force. From this date, authentication and identification procedures for 2G, 3G and 4G subscribers should be carried out using cryptography that meets the requirements of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The third version of the Elbrus OS is now available; the fourth version with the 4.9 kernel is on the way. She should appear in the list in the near future.
RAM and SSD prices started to fall
Overproduction and lower demand provoked lower prices for RAM and solid state drives . Negative price dynamics manifested for the first time in five years - until now, prices have only increased. The cost of DRAM has already fallen to its lowest level in the last three years and the decline continues.
