Toyota and JAXA plan to have a manned rover on the moon in 2029
In 2029, JAXA plans to have a manned rover on the moon, about six meters long, designed for two astronauts.
JAXA plans to send manned missions to the moon between 2029 and 2034.Rover and astronauts are supposed to be sent to the moon in an American rocket.
“For engineers, the greatest joy is participating in projects on the surface of the moon. I'm really excited, ”said Shigeki Terashi, executive vice president of Toyota, at a symposium held by JAXA in Tokyo.
Toyota, together with the Japan Aerospace Research Agency JAXA, introduced a six-wheeled rover project that will use fuel cells and a solar battery, and will allow two astronauts to live in it for a certain period of time without space suits, which will be the first such project in the world.
It is planned that the rover will have a length of 6 meters, a width of 5.2 meters and a height of 3.8 meters, and a living space of 13 square meters.
According to the Bloomberg agency, the rover is designed for four expeditions, between which, under control from Earth, it will have to arrive at the next landing site of astronauts.
Toyota and JAXA have been jointly exploring the concept of a manned rover since May 2018.
The rover is designed for a long-term crew of two people, but in an emergency it can accommodate four. The following are some pictures:
