Second OpenStack meetup at Mail.ru Group: February 22

Hello friends. This Friday we are collecting in Mail.ru our second @OpenStack Meetup, on which:
- Hystax colleagues will show how difficult the migration of virtual machines between clouds and hypervisors is with the example of a client case;
- Mail.Ru Cloud Solutions will share their experience with OpenStack and Linux Storage Stack: what are often forgotten when planning storage?
- Canonical will continue to talk about their approach to modeling infrastructure. This time you will learn how MAAS and Juju make it easier to automate working with servers with a large number of network interfaces and L3-oriented network topology in automation.
The meeting will take place on February 22 (Friday) at 19:00 in the Moscow office of Mail.ru Group (Leningradsky Prospekt, 39, p. 79).
Registration is required and closes on February 20 at 23:59 (or earlier if the seats run out).
Mitap program
“Migration to OpenStack: through thorns to the stars as an example of one case”
Maxim Bozhenko, Hystax
Migration of virtual machines between clouds and hypervisors can be difficult not only technically, but also organizationally. Especially when third forces interfere with the process. One of such cases will be described on the example of migration from VMware to OpenStack of one of the Hystax clients.
“OpenStack and the Linux Storage Stack, or What We Forget When Planning for Storage,”
Artemy Kapitula, Mail.Ru Cloud Solutions
We will turn to the Linux block stack, the specifics of the behavior of block devices in the virtual environment and in the hypervisor, as well as the nuances of implementing and using some types of block storage in OpenStack.
Including we will consider such topics as:
- Block level operation on Linux.
- Queues and Schedulers (I / O Schedulers).
- Caches.
- Data consistency and the relationship of consistency and performance.
- I / O in QEMU-KVM.
- Performance and data integrity of classic storage systems, SoftRAID and Ceph.
“Automating Deployment of OpenStack Infrastructure: Network Modeling”
Dmitry Shcherbakov, Canonical, Field Software Engineer
I’ll talk about how to use network modeling in MAAS, Juju and OpenStack Charms to simplify the commissioning of OpenStack clouds with a complex network topology. In particular, I will reveal the details of using multiple broadcast domains to separate the network traffic of various infrastructure components, configure routing for L3 topologies, and also discuss issues of service discovery.
Do not forget to register using the link - we will review all applications and send confirmations on Wednesday.
