Internet Archive uploaded 1500+ programs for Windows 3.1, you can work directly in the browser

A few days ago, Internet Archive uploaded dozens of old viruses to the Web that still ran under DOS, creating the Malware Museum . The “museum” has about 80 classic viruses that many users of that time encountered.

Now there is another museum - this time of old programs that worked under Windows 3.1. The developers posted the most popular applications at that time, including both purely working tools and games. You can find all this in the new section of the Windows 3.X Showcase . In total, 1523 programs are posted here, their number continues to increase. In the browser, all this works thanks to the Windows 3.1 JavaScript emulator.

Developers toldthat some parts of this project were always in their hands. Almost all the software was stored by the representatives of the project team on various media. In addition, some programs were sent out and enthusiasts who heard about the preparation of a new section on the Internet Archive.

After the number of collected programs reached a certain figure, the developers began to create a Win 3.1 emulator. This turned out to be a difficult task, but volunteers coped with it.

Plus, there is a Windows 95 preview emulation - those who found all this in due time will be glad to see the “old new” operating system again.

Naturally, a lot of software is copyrighted, and developers had to consider this point. Therefore, some programs were replaced by free counterparts - and some had to be put aside for a long time precisely for this reason.

In general, the time to begin to recall the past.
