Dota 2, or Bone Fantasy. Modding flash drives
It is not clear which way and fabrications, but I got a hobby - modding flash drives. The path was thorny and intricate, about the same as that which led me from the physics of space and a scientific institute to the IT sphere. But this is lyrics, so let's go on a journey through the history of creating a gift flash drive from a piece of horn, a couple of pieces of wood and a Transcend donor.
Having taken the horn of Manchurian deer (fortunately there are familiar hunters), I figured the length I needed under the eye, under the body and cap. Sawing away, do not forget to put labels, for a more beautiful match of fibers and texture of the horn.
We drill and slightly expand the resulting holes so that the microcircuit enters.
But then a little more complicated. Getting married! We learn that the wife redraws the pictures well and ask her to put the logo we need. Because he himself, no matter how much he fought and drew, it turns out anything, but not the Dota icon.
According to the resulting drawing, we run an engraving machine along the contour, and what will glow is drilled with a 1mm drill. We admire the accuracy and ergonomics of the holes made, but not for long.
With the help of a diamond-coated nozzle, we are trying to bring everything into a digestible form, methodically grinding off all that is superfluous. Photo of the intermediate state.
In the cap we mount the usb connector mother. This will allow the cap to close tightly and securely. We fix the connector inside the cap with epoxylin, or poxipol.
The stage of creating bolsters - wooden spacers between the body and the cap - unfortunately did not fix. Their essence is purely decorative, two pieces of wood, tightly fitted to each other, with holes exactly under the connector of the flash drive. Bolsters give the product a more aesthetic appearance and cover the unappetizing ends of the bone. Mine in this case is mahogany, I like the combination of mahogany and horns.
Putting it all together before gluing: case, bolster, cap and flash drive. Final check for unnecessary slots, distortions, etc. We check how the logo will glow.
We glue it together with epoxy. The holes that we so carefully drilled and sharpened are also filled with epoxy: we do not need different rubbish and water there. Check the brightness of the backlight after filling.
We glue the wooden base to the USB flash drive and the top of the cap. We grind all unnecessary, grind, polish with wax.
We hang a chain with a suspension that will not let us lose (forget somewhere) our cap. Well, how could it be without a thematic box: since all this was done for a man who fancies in the character Ax from Dota2.
That's what we got. If you have questions, I will answer with pleasure.
