Why Tomsk scientists blow ice
Every spring, ice is blown up on the Tom River to avoid congestion during ice drift. At this time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations asks residents not to worry when they hear explosions, observe safety measures and refrain from fishing on ice floes.
Tomsk State University has been exploring ice for a quarter of a century, including river ice.

The complexity of blasting in the case of ice is that there are more than fifteen of its types. Scientists from Tomsk use the mobile laboratory "Studies of the behavior of natural materials under / explosive loading"to practice observing the behavior of ice or rock. A laboratory employee, Maxim Orlov, noted that the objects of research were already the snow-covered, snow-white ice cover of the sandwich structure and natural limestone, further scientists will investigate coal and shale limestone.
The mechanics of the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of Tomsk State University have developed a program for simulating the behavior of ice, limestone, and coal during explosions. This program is already used by KuzbassSpetsVzryvz in preparation for work - the company, among other things, blows up ice on Tomi. Scientists are developing a physical and mathematical model of the behavior of ice under dynamic loads and are working on a numerical method for calculating its shock and explosive loading.
You can use the program when extracting natural resources, when access to deposits is blocked by rocks and ice, and even when designing aircraft - since some celestial bodies are completely composed of ice.
