Review of the budget 7-inch LTE-tablet DEXP Ursus TS270 Star

LTE moves around the country - operators regularly report on the launch of fourth-generation networks in the next village, and manufacturers of subscriber equipment, in turn, report on the release of new devices that support this technology. So the Vladivostok brand DEXP did not stay away from this trend. There are enough gadgets with LTE support in its line, but today we will consider a specific model - the DEXP Ursus TS270 Star tablet. This is one of the most inexpensive LTE tablets on the market: its price is 8,190 rubles. In addition, the model will stand out with a powerful battery: usually 7-inch tablets are equipped with batteries with capacities from 2,500 to 3,000 mAh, and here we see as much as 3,800 mAh.

The DEXP Ursus TS270 Star package includes only the essentials: a charger unit, and a USB-MicroUSB cable. Well, of course, there is an instruction and a guarantee.

    Design

Despite the use of a capacious battery, the DEXP Ursus TS270 Star turned out to be quite thin: less than 9 mm. The tablet weighs 260 g. The design of the device is simple but cute. It seems that the eye has nothing to catch on, but, nevertheless, it's nice to look at the device. By the way, the model is offered in two versions: blue and white.

On the front panel of the DEXP Ursus TS270 Star there is a front camera with a resolution of 0.3 megapixels, light and proximity sensors, as well as a speaker. Fortunately, the tablet is small, 7-inch, and supports voice communication, it can be used as a smartphone for voice calls.

At the top of the back of the DEXP Ursus TS270 Star there is a plastic insert under which there is a compartment for a microSD memory card (up to 32 GB) and two slots for installing SIM cards. Although this plastic insert is removable, you should not worry that it will hang out during operation - the build quality of the tablet is high. Also at the top of the back are the main camera lens and flash. Below - a slot of the speaker.

The power button and dual volume control key are on the right side. They protrude above the body, so they can even feel blindly. All keys have a clear course and sufficient resistance to eliminate false presses.

A connector for recharging and connecting to a computer (microUSB) is located on the upper edge, there is also a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack.

    Screen

Usually, inexpensive 7-inch tablets use displays with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, but in DEXP Ursus TS270 Star the situation is much more interesting. The developers used a high-quality IPS-matrix format HD - with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The image quality is high - it is difficult to see the points, the picture is smooth and bright. The viewing angles also did not disappoint: even when viewed from a wide angle, the text on the screen remains readable.

The display is covered with plastic, and in order to protect it from scratches, a protective film is glued to it in the factory.

The touch layer is responsive, you do not have to poke into the same interface element several times. Multi-touch screen is supported - in a 5-point version.

    operating system

DEXP Ursus TS270 Star is running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The version is still current, moreover, there is no noticeable difference between 5.0 and the same 5.1. The main thing is the convenient and nice looking Material Design interface in place, the optimization of power consumption and performance, which makes Lollipop noticeably better than KitKat, is also there.

We can say that the operating system is “bare”, that is, without any proprietary modifications and shells. However, there is a set of third-party applications. Here I add that in DEXP Ursus TS270 Star provides the ability to update firmware over the air.

    Hardware platform

The DEXP Ursus TS270 Star uses a chipset from the Taiwanese company MediaTek, and specifically MT8735W (four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz and Mali-720MP2 graphics). As for performance, everything is in order with it, there is nothing to complain about. DEXP Ursus TS270 Star works smartly, both in the Android environment, and in applications or games.

In those 3D-games in which the graphics are set, you can select the maximum level, but it is better, of course, to use the average level, since at maximum settings subtle “slowdowns” sometimes occur. It is also worth adding that MT8735W is today one of the most energy-efficient chipsets for tablets, which in combination with a large battery further enhances battery life.

This chipset has a full range of wireless adapters: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and LTE. LTE-modem provides not only the ability to access the Internet wherever there is operator coverage, but also allows you to make / receive voice calls and exchange text messages. Regarding the rest of the wireless adapters (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS), there is nothing special to say about them - they work absolutely stably, and more is not required from them.

RAM in DEXP Ursus TS270 Star 1 GB, internal - 8 GB. It is also possible to install a microSD card with a capacity of up to 32 GB.

    Cameras

DEXP Ursus TS270 Star is equipped with two cameras: 0.3 and 2 megapixels. The first is on the front panel, the second is on the back. You can evaluate the quality of the pictures yourself:

    Offline work

The capacity of the DEXP Ursus TS270 Star battery is 3,800 mAh, which is pretty good: there are similar 7-inch models with 3,000 mAh and even 2,500 mAh. In the average mode of use, one charge lasts for 1.5-2 days. If you continuously use the tablet, say, play, then it will last about 6 hours, and twist HD-video - about 8 hours.

    Conclusion

DEXP Ursus TS270 Star with its price tag of 8,190 rubles is a very interesting solution: here you have an HD screen, LTE support, and a powerful battery. In a word, a set of important "little things" that are not so often found in 7-inch tablets, even individually, not to mention all at once in one device. So you can recommend DEXP Ursus TS270 Star for purchase, unless, of course, you are confused by very simple cameras. However, cameras in tablets almost never happen to be of high quality, even in models for 15-20 thousand rubles.
