On January 9, 2016, Tesla released an update (7.1) of its firmware for Model S and X models. The new update includes all the new functionality that Tesla tested last month: UI improvements, new autopilot function, restrictions for autopilot. Also, the automaker announced the Summon function, which allows Model S to move around independently without a person in the car.

Like the release of the Autorule mode in October, Tesla released the Summon feature in Beta status.
Summon allows Model S to park itself in a garage or parking space at a distance of up to 12 meters, as well as independently leave the garage. Model S owners should simply use the button on the key to activate the maneuver.

One of the owners, James Majerus, has already received a new update and posted a small demo on Youtube:

Once this functionality is combined with the previously announced robotic charging function, the troubles with the charging process of Tesla machines should be significantly reduced.

Here is another video demonstrating the new functionality:

After Elon Musk warned Tesla car owners against being overly enthusiastic about the new Autopilot functionality, Tesla released some limitations of this functionality in a recent firmware update to reduce the potential danger of using Autopilot.

Quote from the official release update:
Autopilot functionality is now limited for roads in residential neighborhoods and roads without central markings. When Autosteering is activated on a road limited for this, Model S will reduce speed to the maximum allowed in this section + 5 mph. Entering such a limited section Model S will reduce its speed, if necessary, and will do so even if you try to increase the speed limit of Cruise Control . "

It seems that the new restrictions seem pretty reasonable, but most Tesla Model S owners are people who like to feel free to use the new features of this system. So a fresh update divided the owners into those who like Tesla's safety concerns and those who are disappointed that Tesla is depriving their cars of additional functionality.
