Airbus Defense and Space showed a comprehensive system of protection against drones
Airbus Defense and Space introduced a comprehensive system designed to protect a selected area of the terrain from the intrusion of unwanted unmanned aerial vehicles. Presented at the current CES 2016 exhibition of consumer electronics, it can not only recognize UAVs in the air, but also jam its control signal, and even find the location of the drone operator.
The craze for remotely controlled flying vehicles, usually in the form of multicopter, has captured the whole world. And as it happens periodically with progress, an increase in the number of devices and their owners has led to various kinds of problems. In addition to commonplace collisions with buildings, these flying toys can do even more serious harm - for example, pose a threat to helicopters or airplanes .
Even if the owner of the device does not have bad intentions, emergency situations such as gusts of wind or loss of communication with the UAV are always possible. Such a multicopter, being, for example, over the territory of an operating airport, can cause damage to property, and in the worst case, to the life and health of people. Naturally, the fight against espionage UAVs is also a priority among the military and special services. In addition, an application from the US Federal Prison Administration has already been received for such systems .
The comprehensive Airbus Defense and Space system is equipped with infrared cameras, radars and various sensors. According to the developers, it can recognize the presence of a multicopter at a distance of 10 km. Further actions depend on the tasks set by the customer.
For example, having an extensive base of control systems and signals for drones, the protective system can drown out the control signal of the aircraft or distort GPS signals in the necessary way - so that as a result the operator loses control over it. In addition, the system can track the direction of the control signal so that it is possible to detect the pilot, and, for example, if they violate the airspace, pass it into the long arms of the law. At the same time, the company promises that jamming control signals will not affect the operation of other devices that may be in the range of the system.
