Munich Appathon 2015

DataArt, together with HypoVereinsbank, participated in the international 24-hour hackathon called “Appathon”, which was held at the HVB Forum in Munich on November 6, 2015. It was organized by its UniCredit bank. The participants' task was to develop applications and solutions that will determine the vector of development of the banks of the future.

UniCredit Group's top priority is innovation. They encourage experimentation at all levels, have opened a large innovation center in Milan and plan to invest an additional € 1.2 billion in innovation by 2018.

This is not the first year that DataArt has been successfully providing companies with various digital products, supporting and promoting innovations that help bring banks closer to their customers. Five mentors from our team, including a designer, a UI / UX expert, a mobile app developer, a wearable gadget expert, and a server support specialist, shared their experiences and provided technical expertise and support to a hackathon participant. For the first time at Appathon this year, UniCredit gave full access to its API, which gave participants the opportunity to access all areas of the banking system, connect to the bank platform and create applications based on it. Colleagues from DataArt, including, monitored the smooth operation of the API.

DataArt shared with its new teams the experience of developing Doo'nation and Puls'ation applications, thanks to which we won awards at past hackathons. For clarity, we decided to create a prototype of such applications. Based on Puls'ation, they created a health-saving account where users could transfer certain amounts, receiving a decent refund. The amount of return is based on the implementation of various tasks to improve their own health (for example, for burning a certain amount of calories).

The last Appathon was attended by 17 teams - a total of 80 people. The first prize went to the developers of the financial management application UniConcierge, which provides users and their private bankers with an overview of assets (liquidity, investments, real estate, holdings, etc.) and the possibility of video chat.

The second place went to the TeenWallet application, which helps teenagers manage their spending, and their parents control their spending, give tips on managing money, reward children and reimburse their spending on purchases related to education.

Third prize went to CouchBanking, the first banking app for AppleTV.

DataArt has already helped more than 100 financial services and stock market customers create and maintain strong digital strategies, and therefore is familiar with the increased attention of regulatory authorities, the infrastructure of banks, their historical legacy and existing solutions in the industry. Therefore, our team decided to share their opinions and presented their own Enter-Prize to TeenCash's TeenWallet application. Our award was a comprehensive assessment and technical business plan, necessary to bring the prototype application to the market or potential sale to its enterprise, taking into account all practical nuances.
