How to reduce the water consumption in the shower by 7 times, without reducing the volume of its consumption?

Welcome to the iCover Blog Pages ! Enjoying cool, or vice versa, pleasantly warming jets of water in the shower, we are often not inclined to argue at the same time how much of it is consumed in one session of communication with the water element. But in a quiet and prosperous “country of tulips”, where 10% of the electric power is supplied by wind power plants, enterprising minds more than seriously approached the issue of reducing water consumption.

Hamwells from the Netherlands has developed, manufactured and certified in accordance with European standards a device for a smart shower, which allows, according to the authors of the development, to reduce water consumption by 7 times, electricity or gas, due to which heating is carried out - by 80%. The start-up e-Shower has been called one of the 25 most technologically advanced projects of the past year and, despite the space cost of such a shower, has already managed to interest end consumers.

The eco-shower e-Shower, like the Dyson vacuum cleaner for most, will remain a matter of desire and an occasion to once again evaluate the capabilities of modern technologies - the cost of an installed shower set is almost 2950 euros. The figure looks impressive enough even for a respectable European who knows how and knows how to save not only natural resources, but also his own budget.

Regarding technology, the idea is so simple and not new, and it is completely incomprehensible why it has not yet been implemented in the practice of home consumption. The key difference between e-Shower and the standard shower system is the technical recirculation capability provided by Hamwells engineers .. One and the same volume of water heated to a comfortable temperature in a cyclic mode until its final disposal in the sewer, the swimmer uses up to 7 times. Moreover, in each case, the water is perfectly clean, quite comfortable temperature and hygienically safe.

    Principle

The water flowing from the shower head does not leave immediately, but enters the SmartStop ™ system, which performs several functions - it prevents leakage from the tank, filters all by-products, and directs excess water when it is formed into the sewer.

The microfilter, not only cleans the recirculating water, but also “cleans itself” by washing with a portion of cold water before each bath.

Similar principles have already been applied previously in professional spas. But, according to the developers, the system proposed in the electronic shower e-Shower allows you to use them for the first time in comfortable home conditions, while guaranteeing such an important detail as hygienic safety.

So, unlike the traditional shower, the water in the e-Shower remains inside the shower tray, where it is filtered, warmed up and flows to the next “circle”. Thus, if the consumed amount of water per minute is, on average, 15 liters, and the duration of bathing is 7 minutes, then only for one bath due to recirculation it is possible to save 6 x 15 = 90 liters of water. If a shower is taken daily at least once, then in this case the savings will be already 90 x 30 = 2700 liters per month for only one person. If the data provided is correct, then the figure, of course, is impressive.

Savings are also achieved by reducing the amount of electricity or gas required to maintain a constant comfortable temperature of the water, since the water circulates, initially heated to the desired temperature. The amount of hot water added on each cycle to restore the temperature to comfortable is only 1.5 liters. Of course, a certain amount of electricity will be required to maintain the operation of the recirculation system and the associated electronics.

In addition to a mechanical filter that performs rough water purification in each cycle, water is also subjected to additional processing thanks to an ultraviolet filter. It is he who effectively solves the problem of disinfection of waste water during recycling, which, according to project manager Eric Van Duin, allows us to guarantee the hygienic and bacteriological safety of water at the level of European standards.

To maintain the system in working order, it is still better for the user (despite the self-washing filter) to rinse the mechanical filter of the pan from time to time independently.

    Comfort options

For users who consider bathing not just as a daily routine hygiene routine, but as a process to enjoy, an integrated Bluetooth speaker is integrated into the e-Shower's front panel. All you need to activate it is to connect a source of music and other audio content. The touch-sensitive display allows you to finely control the temperature, stop / activate the water supply. And at the end of the bath, if desired, you can estimate the amount of water saved using the pre-installed iOS or Android application developed by Hamwells specifically for this purpose.

Hamwells plans to start supplying innovative equipment in June 2016, but a number of representatives of the large hotel business have already placed pre-orders.
