Tesla Model S P85D can accelerate from 0 to ~ 100 km / h in just 2.8 seconds

    Tesla has announced that Model S will have a new mode of operation called “Ludicrous” (absurd, ridiculous). Now the electric car can accelerate from 0 to ~ 100 km / h (from 0 to 60 mph) in just 2.8 seconds. Previously, the electric car could accelerate to the same speed in 3.1 seconds. The previous mode of operation was called “Insane” (insane).

    According to Elon Musk, the acceleration in this case is 1.1G, that is, more than the acceleration of gravity. “It's as if you had your own roller coaster,” Musk commented on the news.

    In order to activate this mode, the owner of Tesla Model S will need to not only update the software, but also modify the hardware, and not for free. Why? The fact is that in order to get such a result, Tesla had to develop new equipment, including a fuse that does not melt when a high ampere load is supplied through it.

    Upgrading to a new configuration will cost $ 10 thousand for new customers and $ 5 thousand for existing owners of this electric car.

    Musk also announced two more updates:

    1. Model S 70, a new 70 kWh model for $ 70 thousand;
    2. A new 90 kWh battery for $ 3,000.

    Unfortunately, very few details were presented about Model X. The only thing that is said - Model X will go on sale within 2 months. And Model 3s will be available in two years.

    And the bonus is the video that was shown to reporters before the presentation.
