Headphones Grado iGi

Today we will get acquainted with the headphones for the Grado iGi player.

iGi is the only in-channel model at Grado with a dynamic emitter. Traditionally, in-ear headphones are designed for portable use with a player and laptop. The “i” index has nothing to do with the iPhone and the iGi is not a headset.

Headphones are delivered in elegant packing. In addition to headphones, only the nozzles are included in the package and for careful transportation it will not hurt to buy a separate case or case .

The main body of the headphone is rubber coated and the cambric is tactilely soft.

The set of nozzles is quite large and varied. In addition to the classic type of single-petal nozzles, the configuration includes: two-petal, foam and conical shapes. Most consumers make one-petal nozzles, but if the shape of the auditory canal is far from the “average majority”, then nozzles of less common forms or individual nozzles are saved. Foam nozzles in the kit are classified as "solid". In the summer they are soft, and in winter they require preliminary “defrosting” to take the desired shape. Unlike “soft” foam nozzles (such as those in the Shure SE215 configuration ), “hard” ones are more durable. Foam nozzles should be used in cases where existing standard ones do not fit.

The dimensions of the iGi headphones seem large, but a small diameter sound guide is used. Due to this, single-petal nozzles of size S are significantly smaller than similar nozzles of other headphones. iGi is well suited for those who have a small auditory canal. Very often, such a channel is present among the fair sex.

The wire on iGi is very similar to Sennheiser ie4 wire. As you know, Sennheiser uses Kevlar threads for increased strength. Visually, this can be determined as follows - if the wire is wrinkled, then the sheath takes a new shape (since the elasticity is low), while the Kevlar thread, like a spring, will straighten the wire back. In iGi, this is how the wire behaves, trying to straighten up whenever possible. Thus, it can be assumed that breaking the wire will be very difficult.

The plug is angled at 45 degrees - a universal option.

The sound of the headphones can be described as neutral, with an emphasis in the upper middle region. Unlike most in-channel dynamic headphones, iGi does not have increased returns in the low-frequency range and the headphones are similar in nature to reinforcing ones. iGi, like Grado overhead models, are more inclined to listen to such styles as: classical, jazz and ambient.

Since we mention reinforcing headphones, what advantages can i highlight with iGi? In this price category, only mainly single-driver models can be considered as competitors, and under equal conditions iGi will have higher overload capacity.

Measurements at Reference Audio Analyzershowed that the headphones have a smooth "home" frequency response. This type of frequency response is most in demand on the street or at home in a quiet noisy environment where low frequency compensation is not required.

Thanks to the calibration of microphones up to 46 kHz, the behavior of the headphones in the extended frequency range can be noted. For clarity, the areas behind the audible frequency range are grayed out. The headphone impedance is close to that declared by the manufacturer and is 26 ohms.

    Conclusion

Headphones Grado iGi is a good alternative to reinforcing headphones with a dynamic emitter for classics, jazz and other genres that do not require dominant bass. Thanks to an expanded set of nozzles, iGi will be comfortable even for listeners with a non-standard shape of the ear canal.
