Pebble vs. Apple: Campaign Funding Accelerated

The day after Apple presented its wearable gadgets, including the “luxury” model of watches that cost a car, the donation flow from the Pebble Time project on Kickstarter almost tripled. The founder and CEO of the company, Eric Migikovsky, admitted that they expected an increase in interest in the field of wearable gadgets due to the arrival of the largest player in the mobile field.

It turns out that the start of the crowdfunding campaign, which was scheduled about two weeks before Apple's presentation, was chosen very skillfully from the point of view of strategy. On the one hand, the creators of Pebble managed to collect money from those people who previously preferred their project to apple. If the presentation of Apple is successful, then interest in wearable gadgets will only heat up, and Pebble will also fall into something. If Apple's new products do not meet the expectations of customers, they will look for an alternative and will also turn to Pebble.

It is still difficult to say which of the two scenarios played, but what is reliably known, the flow of funds to the Pebble campaign increased from $ 6,000 per hour on the eve of the presentation to $ 16,000 per hour immediately after it.

Pebble with the first version of its watches already set a record on Kickstarter in 2012, collecting the maximum amount for that time in the amount of $ 10 million. At the moment, their new project has already gained more than $ 18 million, and there are still 11 days left until its completion. It is possible that they will complete their resounding success by doubling the previous record, and for a long time remain the most successful project on this crowdfunding platform.

The new project offers the third generation of watches, with a color e-ink screen ($ 199 retail) and a watch option in a steel case ($ 299 retail). Apple Watch models start at $ 349, while luxury watches cost up to $ 17,000.
