Xperia M4 Aqua - waterproof smartphone from Sony

Waterproof phones as a class have been around for quite some time. Many manufacturers, in order to ensure the waterproofness declared for the smartphone, use plugs on key USB ports and an SD card. And these stubs are constantly lost or broken. But not in the Xperia M4 Aqua, TechCrunch reports .

In the new Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone, Sony engineers abandoned the annoying plugs, at least on the USB charging port. Unfortunately, a waterproof plug is still available for the SD card port.

The phone does not lose to its competitors in the average price range and in terms of configuration. On board the new M4 Aqua 13 and 5 megapixel cameras, the eight-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 mobile processor, which ensures the operation of the device on Android Lolipop. The declared operating time without recharging is two days.

Sony warns that the phone can be considered waterproof with some reservations. Firstly, the depth of immersion of the apparatus should not exceed 1.5 meters. Therefore, drowning the M4 Aqua in a well or from a pier is not recommended. Secondly, exposure to salt water should be avoided, but may be used in water containing chlorine. After use, the smartphone must be rinsed (apparently with drinking water). Of course, if you dipped the phone, the USB port should dry before charging.

Starting price for the M4 Aqua in 80 countries around the world will be 299 euros, but not in the United States. According to Sony, they pay particular attention to placing their flagship models in this market.

M4 Aqua can be positioned as a waterproof smartphone only up to a certain point, but it is already clearly visible how far this “moment” is for Sony's competitors in the premium market. With this phone you should not swim in the ponds, but it is perfect for reading books in the bathroom.
