Microsoft ceases support for its own messenger in Windows Phone
Microsoft has sent users of Windows Phone 8.x smartphones a notice of discontinuation of the Family Room feature since March 2015. It is reported that after the end of support, users will still have the opportunity to view photo albums, notes and calendars uploaded to the rooms, however, new content will not be added. Chats (the most used feature) will be completely disabled.
At Microsoft, this is explained by the introduction of new similar features in Windows 10. Judging by the abrupt cessation of support, the changes are preparing radical.
I’ll add from myself that I perceived the news as negative. The function was convenient, I was especially pleased with the messenger built into the system, which allows me to correspond with other WP 8 users without additional programs hanging. It was much more convenient than third-party applications and I considered WP8 as one of the advantages.
It is a pity that for MS it’s so easy to cut functionality in the OS, which came out a little more than six months ago.
