High CRI LED Strip Light on Aliexpress

Surprisingly, on Aliexpress we managed to find LED strips with a color rendering index (CRI, Ra) above 80 and even above 90.

I wrote many times that for unknown reasons on Aliexpress, there are no good LED lamps - all the lamps I tested were either with a high level of ripple or with a low color rendering index. Admire yourself on the red-red table with an average level of the final rating of lamps less than two points: http://lamptest.ru/results/?brand_12=on&type_1=on.

My reader, Andrei Chu, managed to find quality LED strips on Ali.

I measured the parameters of five LED strips. Luminous flux was measured using a two-meter integrating sphere and an Instrument Systems spectrometer, power consumption by the THD-2 instrument, color rendering index and color temperature by the Uprtek MK350D instrument. The ripple of the LED strip light depends solely on the power source, so it is pointless to measure it when testing the strip - when the tape is powered from a stabilized constant voltage source, the ripple level of the light will always be zero.

A 12 or 24 volt supply voltage, set using a laboratory power supply and an Aneng AN8001 precision multimeter, was applied to the center of the tape whenever possible.

    1. 24-volt strip with LEDs of two color temperatures and a declared CRI of more than 90 "Dual Color SuperBright SMD2835 112leds / m, 5m / reel 24V CCT color temperature adjustable and dimmable strip white + warm white" from the SiDaWang Led Lighting store. $ 38 for 5 meters (approximately 450 rubles per meter).

I tested this tape in three modes: warm light, cold light, warm + cold light.

The seller (or maybe he is also the manufacturer) cleverly indicates the power and light flux, without specifying that these parameters are valid while warm and cold LEDs are on. In the warm light mode, the meter of the tape gives 686 lm, that is, it shines like a single 60-watt incandescent lamp, but it costs much more.

Color rendering indices in all modes really exceed 90. Warm and cold.

Mixed mode (both warm and cold LEDs are on).

The vast majority of tapes sold on Aliexpress have very low color rendering indices ( often even below 65 ). This is probably why sellers of high-quality ribbons indicate CRI levels directly in the product name:

    2. 12-volt tape with neutral light and a CRI above 90 "DC12V High CRI90 SMD2835 1116LM / M LED Light Strip White Flexible Strip Lighting 60LEDs 12W / M 8mm Wide White PCB Non -waterproof "from the manufacturer and store UnvarySam Official Store. $ 22.94 per 5 meters (about 270 rubles per meter).

    3. Less powerful tape from the same manufacturer “DC12V SM5050 High CRI 90+ LED Light Strip 10MM White PCB Flex Ribbon Strip 30LEDs / M Non-waterproof High Color Rendering Index”. $ 6.50 per meter (about 380 rubles).

    Test results:

The power of both tapes turned out to be higher than the declared one, the luminous flux of the first tape corresponds to the declared one, and the second one is almost twice as high as what the seller indicated (yes, it happens). CRI is really above 90:

    4. Tape with a declared CRI of more than 80 “CRI> 80 2017 New Seoul 0.5W 55-65lm / LED 12V LED Strip Light 5630 White IP20 7.36W / m” from the manufacturer CNDIYLF from the Gree Lamps And Components Limited store. $ 9.94 per 5 meters (about 120 rubles per meter).

    5. 24-volt tape of the same manufacturer from the same store with the declared power of 15 W / meter "2017 New Commercial CRI> 80 5M 480LED DC 24V Seoul 5730/5630 LED Strip Light White 50-55lm / LED 15W / m 2250lm / m 3000/4000 / 6000K. " $ 16.69 per 5 meters (about 200 rubles per meter).

    Test results:

There is clearly something wrong with the seller. For the first tape, directly in its name, the power is 7.36 W per meter, 0.5 W per one LED and luminous flux 55-65 lm per one LED. On the meter of this tape there are 60 LEDs and, based on the data presented, the meter of the tape should consume 30 watts and give 3300-3900 lm. The truth was in the middle. The meter of the tape consumes 14.2 W and gives 1664 lm.

For the second tape, the seller indicates in the heading a power of 15 W per meter and a luminous flux of 2250 lm per meter. The actual power turned out to be higher - 21.5 W, and the luminous flux slightly lower - 2110 lm.

Both tapes were ordered with a color temperature of 4000K, and in fact came with a color temperature of about 3100K. It seems that the seller simply mixed up and sent the wrong tapes.

The color rendering indices of both tapes are really high - about 85. Such tapes can be used for home lighting.

As it turned out, on Aliexpress you can find high-quality LED strip with high color rendering indices. Of course, it costs more than bad tapes, which are the vast majority on Aliexpress, but at the same time this high-quality tape is much cheaper than the good LED tape sold in Russia.
