Remix Mini, a PC on a custom version of Android, has raised more than $ 1 million on Kickstarter
Crowdfunding is a very successful solution for the implementation of many projects. However, some projects, being launched on Kickstarter or Indiegogo, show simply record results. One of these record projects is a miniature Android PC, called Remix Mini.
A custom version of Adnroid, created by the Chinese startup Jide, is installed as the OS. By the way, this company was founded by an ex-Google employee. A special feature of the customized version of Android, called Remix OS, is the presence of a task bar, support for working simultaneously with several applications (multi-window), plus a large number of other nice features.
Interestingly, in addition to the PC, the same company launched a fundraising project for the Remix Ultra tablet, which is very similar to Microsoft Surface. The tablet project raised about $ 210 thousand, but the Remix Mini has already received more than $ 1 million , instead of $ 50 estimated thousand. The project was supported by 14 thousand users of Kickstarter! This is one of the most successful fundraising projects for the iron project. Of course, the Pebble Time record with its $ 20 + million is far, but collecting a million US dollars on Kickstarter is not a trivial task.
One of the factors that influenced the success of the project is the price. So, the "early birds" will receive a PC for only $ 20. Now these positions are already closed, there are options for $ 30 (or $ 40, with better features).
PC capabilities are not suitable for “heavy” applications, but it copes with most office tasks and working with media content. Inside is a 1.2 GHz Allwinner H64 ARM Cortex-A53 processor, up to 2 GB of RAM, up to 16 GB of ROM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless modules, Ethernet, HDMI ports. Size is 4.9 ″ x 3.5 ″ x 1 ″.
Remix OS, if desired, can be downloaded separately. So, now there is a version for Nexus 9 and Nexus 10 . Now work on the system continues, in July, developers released Remix OS 1.5.
And here is a demo of Remix 2.0, with lots of new features.
