Sending parcels from abroad via Shopozz: some statistics for 2014

    In 2014, Shopozz.com, a free package forwarding service, was born . A little later, in August, our blog appeared on Habré, then he migrated to Giktayms, we wrote reviews of equipment , described the latest news of the month , advised what to buy on "Black Friday" and the like. And all this time they sent parcels. They sent and sent.



    Today we would like to share some statistics on how, how much, and in what quantity our customers sent (including Shopozz.ru users ). How the currency crisis affected the number of shipments and what awaits us all in 2015. Come under the cat, it will be interesting.

    A bit of history: the email forwarding service Shopozz.com arose on the basis of the parent Shopozz.ru, since 2005 helping customers make purchases in stores in the USA, Great Britain, China, Germany and Europe. As a result of many years of work, it came to understand that we need a separate website designed for independent customers who need fast and reliable shipping of goods from a virtual American address. Actually, in July, he appeared and immediately earned in full force.

    But back to the statistics. The first is the number of departures. For clarity, the graph is combined with the dollar, which is marked with a red line. For obvious reasons, we cannot indicate a specific number of shipments - this would be too luxurious a gift to competitors. But do not rush to be disappointed, firstly, 250,000 registered users allow us to judge the extent of forwarding (here and below the statistics are displayed joint statistics of COM and RU services), and secondly, even without specific numbers we can judge the dynamics - and this is the most interesting . Well, and thirdly, these are the only numbers that we have classified.



    Since July, the number of departures has been kept at a more or less stable level. There was an expected surge in September when everyone returned from their vacations. Then, simultaneously with the growth of the dollar, the number of parcels began to fall. It would seem that the fall is not the most catastrophic. However, the experience of previous years suggests that from September to December the number of parcels should have increased significantly. But we see a clear drop, which allows us to talk about an approximately 40-50% decrease compared to the same period last year.

    It should be noted that a similar situation is observed with other shipping services. So shipito in conversationwith RBC announced a 55% decrease in shipments compared to December 2013, and Dostami.ru generally stopped delivering goods to Russia. However, Shopozz has some cause for optimism. Firstly, the number of shipments through Shopozz.com is gradually growing - users are increasingly mastering independent purchases. Secondly, we see a very active “growth point” in the form of shipments from China. Moreover, Shopozz has its own warehouse there.

    We continue the statistics: the average cost of departure - with the exception of October, the average cost of investments is about $ 250 (the October anomaly can be explained by the start of sales of the iPhone 6 and the mass transfer of phones to itself).



    Interestingly, the growth of the dollar did not affect this indicator at all. People both bought the same things for themselves and continue. In addition, the number of things lying in the parcels has not changed - on average, each client of the service puts three goods in one shipment. January preliminary data is also somewhere in this range.

    Shipping costs : As a rule, most customers have chosen the fastest shipping via EMS. This allows us to say that customers value speed and convenience.



    But starting in November, exactly with the growth of the rate, users began to significantly save on delivery, choosing cheaper methods.

    A few more words about the delivery. The leading cities where the packages arrive are, of course, Moscow and St. Petersburg. Against the background of these two capitals, other cities are noticeably behind. However, in numerical terms it cannot be said that other large cities receive few packages. A lot, but not nearly as close as Moscow and St. Petersburg.

    Now, regarding the timing. As already mentioned, many ordered delivery via EMS. The average term is 8 days (guaranteed period is 2 weeks). Priority Mail - on average 16 days (guaranteed period - 4 weeks), Shopozz by Sea - 32 days (guaranteed - 9 weeks), Shopozz Avia - 18 days (guaranteed - 4 weeks).



    I must say that Shopozz is very responsible for the timing. Therefore, the service has a guarantee - if the parcel arrived later than the agreed deadline, the user receives compensation in the form of free shipment of the next shipment. For the whole of 2014, there is only one (I repeat, one) official appeal to the support service regarding failure to meet deadlines. Naturally, the client received the promised discount.

    As mentioned in previous posts, Shopozz.com calls itself a free email forwarding service from abroad. Free of charge is achieved due to the fact that the user pays for shipping at the postal service tariff. As if he personally came to the post office abroad and sent himself a parcel. Shopozz itself makes a profit due to the volume discount - with a large number of shipments, the postal operator makes a discount that allows the service to live and develop. The second item of income is the provision of additional services for checking goods and photographing them. Agree, it would be a shame to buy a product (especially if it concerns something second-hand, bought on Ebay), pay a lot of money, wait two or three weeks and get not what was ordered.

    According to statistics, on average, owners of 16% of parcels order a product verification service and 14% ask to photograph a thing. Interestingly, with the growth of the dollar, the number of inspections fell. In January, we fix somewhere a double drop in these indicators - at the current level of the dollar, people are trying to save on any additional service.

    In conclusion, I want to make a small forecast for the first quarter of 2015. The cost of the items shows that people are not going to refuse to buy the usual things - if you are used to buying jeans of one company, you are unlikely to switch to Turkish jeans. Well, after the December price spike, it often turns out again that ordering is cheaper than buying on the spot. So the “average check” of one package remained unchanged. And, apparently, if it is reduced in the near future, it will be insignificant.

    But what people began to really save on was the cost of shipping, delivery time (a week or three) and various additional services like insurance. Moreover, by the time of shopping it is clear that people have become much more active in purchasing from sales. The 50% discount, which was quite possible to catch on Black Friday, perfectly compensated for the doubled dollar rate. Those. the price of the goods in rubles has not changed, but the goods at least remained in the same affordability category as before sales.

    In turn, Shopozz promises to do everything possible to reduce the cost of shipping goods through the introduction of cheaper tariffs. Without sacrificing quality, of course. After all, Shopozz guarantees its delivery time.
