Hillary Clinton's mail server has become an instrument of political struggle

TV channel NBC News reports on a new round of scandal, which has been involved in Hillary Clinton for a long time. As it became known in March last year, Mrs. Clinton, the candidate for the US presidency for the democratic party, did not use an official mail server, but her own, for e-mail correspondence. After it turned out that state secrets passed through an unprotected server, a remarkable scandal erupted, as a result of which Clinton became a defendant in the investigation of the Senate special commission and was forced to give explanations to her reckless actions.

The story actually turned out ugly. Republicans insisted that in March 2015 the investigation fell into the hands of intelligence and as a result, it became clear that the Hillary Clinton server contained at least 1,200 letters with state secrets, although it is not known whether they became the property of unauthorized persons. Moreover, the content of the two letters turned out to be so serious that even a senior intelligence officer Charles McCullough, the head of the investigation, was forced to obtain special permission to view them, because the information in the letters had the highest status of secrecy - Special Access Program (SAP).

Fox News Channel DescribesSAP status as such, the level of which exceeds Top Secret, and access to it is determined by the need-to-know principle, since the disclosure of the content of such documents implies a significant risk to the source of information. At the same time, no one knows for sure how many letters with SAP access were on the server, since the investigation deals only with randomly selected files. McCullough said that Secretary of State (at that time) Hillary Clinton could not help but understand what kind of secret information she was dealing with.

Interestingly, in September last year on the same topic spokeEdward Snowden, who, like no one else knows the principles of the secret services, he was in solidarity with the commission conducting the investigation in the Clinton case. “If ordinary employees of the Department of State or the CIA ... sent out details about the security system of embassies, which probably were in her [Hillary Clinton] letters, about personal meetings and conversations with government and foreign officials, then such employees should not only lose their work, but also, most likely, they should have been responsible for this before the law, ”he said.

As a result, Hillary Clinton had to publicly make excuses. She apologized to the members of the Democratic Party, because the trial could interfere with her presidential campaign, and explained that, in her opinion, she did not violate the protocol for working with secret correspondence, because at that time the letters were not secret. Along the way, another curious circumstance became clear. It turns out that the US State Department is experiencing some difficulties with how to exchange classified information on the Internet, because, unlike the CIA, many officials do not have access to special secret postal services and are forced to use regular ones.
