The English version of Habr: to be or not to be?

    Motivation

In recent days, I’ve been thinking over new material for Habr, at the same time I want to publish it in English, in order to link to articles in the English-language segment of the Internet.

To achieve a result similar to that with Habr, you can write an article on Medium and publish a link to Hacker News .

But apart from development, anything is published on Medium, and therefore the audience there is very different, there is no way to broadcast only to developers, as is the case with Habr, and only someone who is likely to search for it will read the article. Cons can be listed further.

Hacker News (in general, like Medium) is more like a forum about everything than a serious resource where you can discuss a publication that will be relevant for many years after the publication of an article.

The topic of searching for the Habr analog in English has been raised several times ( here , here , here and here ) and I think there are many more different options, but in my opinion there is no standard that is considered to be Habr in the Russian-speaking segment.

Apparently the topic is of interest not only to me. Therefore, in my opinion, a logical proposal arose that I would like to put forward for public discussion.

    Sentence

What does the community and the TM team think about the launch of the English version of Habr?
Should we wait for such a development?

    Of the possible advantages:

    • For authors, this is an opportunity to share (often) unique experience with an English-speaking audience, thus, among other things, to identify themselves in the international market.
    • For TM to attract Western corporate customers, while receiving more revenue.
    • The ability to make the project an international and even industry standard (as it is now on RuNet), since there are no complete analogues.

    Filling:

    • I think a large number of existing articles will be wanted by the authors themselves to translate (it might be worth hiring professional translators to help edit translations)
    • Existing articles will also be translated by users for the sake of practice, advertising their work and the pros in karma (as they are now translating from English into Russian)
    • Perhaps it will become the standard to prepare articles in two languages for Habr and for English Habr.

How do you like the idea? Would you like a similar resource, would you write there?
