Report from Game Design meetup February 4

On the first Saturday of February, the first informal game meeting Game Design meetup took place. And today we want to share the materials of speeches, under the cut you are waiting for presentations and video recordings of four reports.

    - “Motivated player: engaging through medium and long-range goals”
Alexander Pankov, Creative Director, Allods Team, Mail.Ru Group

Involving a gamer in a project is an expensive and non-trivial process. Having learned about the game, becoming interested in it, having made its way through registration, installation and first launch, the user already feels emotional fatigue and a “sense of accomplishment”. And the game design has not yet begun to work. How to save the player until the moment when he is really ready to make a decision “is the game suitable for him” and evaluate its full-fledged gameplay (as well as what difficulties and unobvious obstacles are in this way) will be discussed in the report.

    - “Events in games - the Pixonic case”
Maxim Kozhnov, Head of Analytics, Pixonic

The attitude to stocks can be different, but you should focus solely on the results. What to measure in promotions on the example of the experience of integrating the latest events in War Robots, will tell Maxim Kozhnov.

    - “Modern basic principles of UX-designing in games”
Olga Schubert, Leading Game Designer and UX-Specialist, Juggernaut Wars, Mail.Ru Group

Today the design of interfaces and usability is the most dynamic, global and valuable area of development, on the results of which depends, how the product will appear before the end user - how much it will be meaningful, understandable, useful, convenient, simple.

The report will examine popular approaches to solving usability problems that have proven themselves in top-end products.

    - “Design Features of VR Games”
Dmitry Trubitsin, Senior Game Designer, VR / AR Product Department, Mail.Ru Group

What kind of things do developers for PCs or consoles not think about, but which things to consider? What opportunities open up that aren’t anywhere else? What are the prospects for the direction of VR games? Dmitry will consider these issues in his report.
