Intel Neural Compute Stick. Artificial mind on a flash drive - 2

Without waiting for other vendors to use its reference design of AI modules for all occasions , Intel itself introduced a new generation of specialized computer in the form of USB dongle to the market - the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2. The previous Compute Stick was still called Movidius and was released in 2017 directly after the purchase of Intel of the same name company. Now he has a new name and a new processor, significantly superior to the previous one. But the price remains the same.

The basis of the device is the Intel Movidius Myriad X Vision Processing Unit (VPU) - a specialized SoC that contains 16 general-purpose computing cores, as well as hardware components for accelerating the inference of neural networks and computer vision. Compared to its predecessor, Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 provides an 8-fold performance boost in tasks such as image classification and object detection.

The main characteristics of the device are as follows:

    • Supported frameworks: TensorFlow, Caffe
    • Connection: USB 3.0 Type-A
    • Dimensions: 72.5 x 27 x 14 mm
    • Compatible OS: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (64 bit), CentOS 7.4 (64 bit), Windows 10 (64 bit)

The Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 is supported by the Open Visual Inference & Neural Network Optimization (OpenVINO) toolkit . Samples of code, documentation, training materials, an English-language forum - all this you will find on a special section of the IDZ website .

Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 is available for pre-order from Intel's trading partners for $ 90 apiece.
