According to the results of 2015, smartphone sales in the domestic market decreased by 8%

According to Kommersant, these indicators were published the other day by the MTS press service. To one degree or another, disappointing statistics for the Russian market are also confirmed by other well-known retailers - Euroset, Svyaznoy, Eldorado and M-Video. At the same time, the total revenue from smartphone sales increased to 260 billion rubles due to higher prices for devices.

As noted in the official MTS press release, by the end of 2015, 26 million devices were sold in Russia, which is 8% less than the year before last, when the sales level amounted to 28 million units. The most popular were Apple smartphones, followed by Samsung devices. The same names appear in similar ratings from M-Video and Euroset. Interestingly, representatives of both retailers mark Samsung’s first place in terms of unit sales, with Apple third place (21% and 10% of all sales, respectively, according to Euroset), and financially confidently “apple” rises to the top of the list a corporation with a share of 35%, according to the same Euroset. Each time, Lenovo is the constant companion of the two giants of the mobile industry.

At the same time, retailers are preparing to reduce the volume of supplies to Russia due to the depreciation of the ruble and lower consumer demand. So, the head of the Samsung Mobile representative office in Russia expects a further decrease in smartphone sales by 8-10% in the first quarter of this year and a decrease in total revenue in rubles by 2-5%, although he admits that revenue may remain unchanged due to a further depreciation ruble.

The representative of the "Connected" Maria Zaikina notes that a quantitative decrease in sales was expected due to the unstable economic situation and the tendency to increase the period of use of the smartphone. Maria confirms that sales revenue increased solely due to the fall of the ruble and rising device prices: “Over the past year, the average cost of a smartphone has increased by about 15%.”
