Nokia Contest Ideas

By the release of Lumia 1020, Nokia organized a Future / Capture contest ( they wrote about it on the hub ). Three ideas for applications that make full use of the 41-megapixel camera could be submitted to the contest. I took this opportunity, but did not qualify.

My ideas are pretty much tied to the high resolution of the photos, and I don’t see how to implement them in this form. It's a shame to leave them dusting, so I pass three ideas of applications into the public domain ( CC0 ), and I will be glad if they come in handy for someone or come up with some other ideas.

    1. Where is Waldo?

An interactive application with gameplay similar to the books and games Where's Waldo .

    How does it work?

    1. You take a photo with lots of small details, such as a concert, beach or forest.
    2. You make a quest from your photo - mark small areas of interest (for example, you, kittens, small objects).
    3. Share the quest with your friends.
    4. The task of your friends is to find the points that you marked. It can be competitions between friends, time searches or ratings.

    2. The story of one photo

Applications for creating short video stories from one photo.

    How does it work?

    1. You take a great photo.
    2. You select interesting fragments of the image, these will be key frames of your new video.
    3. You add filters to each keyframe, add descriptions, transform them (scale, rotation).
    4. You apply transitions between key frames (increase, turns), set the length of transitions and the duration of key frames.
    5. Share the video with your friends (using YouTube, Vine or similar services).

    Vacation

Who did you relax with, what did you visit, and what did you do in one video

    Bow

All details, accessories and general appearance in one video.

    3. Collage

Add missing details to your photo using collage.

    How does it work?

    1. You take a photo.
    2. You photograph the missing details separately.
    3. The application combines a dative photo with the original image to get the full picture.

    Threesome

If you are taking a three-person picture, there is always someone who is missing in the frame. Just take a picture of the third person separately and bring everyone together.

    Interesting object

You took a beautiful photo, but after you noticed an interesting object (car, cloud). Just take a separate shot with the new detail and combine with the original photo.

    Technical details

The most technically challenging task, if at all implemented with acceptable quality. Must use algorithms that are used when gluing panoramas. Some of the algorithms are described in detail, several algorithms are used in open source software. All are based on common steps:
    • Find common points on both images
    • Find the transformation matrix for the second image
    • Convert the second image to fit the first.
    • Combine Images
