Yahoo! closes Music Unlimited service

It’s strange somehow. Yahoo! Music Unlimited is a subscription-based music service with a monthly fee from $ 5.99 to $ 8.99 per month. According to The Assoicated Press, Yahoo is going to close the subscription service, redirect users to the Real Network and embed Rhapsody in its portal.

What Yahoo! wants to part with a paid subscription service, this is understandable - they recently announced a new music strategy that focuses on the sale of DMR-free mp3 and free distribution of music on an advertising basis. It’s not clear why redirect their users to competitors, instead of just closing the registration of new users (registration is still open) and then transferring users to a new service.
