UNetLab 1.0. A serious competitor for GNS3

  • Tutorial
Hello colleagues! I don’t know why this news has not yet appeared on the hub, but recently a new version of UNetLab 1.0 was released .

The new version contains many improvements, especially in the part of the web interface. I will not write down what UNetLab is and why it is needed, it has already been done before me and pretty well.

This is a very young project, which in such a short time managed to bring a big rustle in the entire network of networkers. The product itself is developed by a very small team, which does not prevent them from gaining their audience at an enormous pace. If you want to know my opinion, then I am deeply convinced that within two or three years, UNetLab will become the standard in the field of training in network technologies. At the same time, Cisco Packet Tracer will prevail for primary education, while GNS3 will slowly go into oblivion (unless they change their approach to development). But this is only my subjective opinion, it may well be erroneous.

In the video below you can find out about the main innovations of UNetLab 1.0. (Video in English)

The NetSkills project decided to keep up with new trends and set about creating a new course on UNetLab . We have already gone through quite a lot together - Young fighter course , GNS3 Basics . But the time has come to move to a fundamentally new level, without exaggeration.
UNetLab provides a lot of room for activity. Therefore, it was decided to record a UNetLab course and all further serious courses will be based on this product. Cisco ASA, CCNP, S-Terra, Mikrotik, courses on these topics will be on UNetLab.

Now we will consider how our course will be recorded. The content will be approximately the following:
1) Overview
2) Installing UNetLab
3) Dynamips. Launch iOS Images
4) Telnet, VNC, Wireshark
5) Creating a network topology
6) Connect the PC
7) IOU / IOL
8) vIOS
9) ASA
10) ...
Next, we will slowly add more and more new lessons, depending on our needs and your desires. As a result, we should get some video guide on working with UNetLab, on the basis of which we can already come up with more interesting lessons, considering topics such as MPLS, BGP, DMVPN, etc. Those. this course will not be completed and will always be open to new lessons.
I would also like to indicate that in this course no network technologies will be considered. We will study exclusively the functionality of UNetLab. If you have problems understanding basic things (such as vlan, route, vpn), then I recommend that you first read the “Young Fighter Course” .
And the first video lesson:

I think on this we can finish our introduction. Very interesting lessons await us. Thank you for your attention and look forward to seeing you in the next lesson.
