Testing the quality of VoIP transmission over shared channels (Windows)

Earlier, we examined in detail utilities for Android and iOS to test the quality of the channel from the device to the IP-PBX. There is only Windows left.

    3CXPhone for Windows

For those who are not familiar with 3CX Phone for Windows, a short video.

For those who are not familiar with 3CX Phone for Android - a short video.

    Visualware MySpeed (online service)

This is probably one of the easiest and most affordable tests. On the site http://myspeed.visualware.com you need to select your region, the nearest server (for Russia the closest in Germany) and click the start button. After a few seconds, you can enjoy the channel quality information in an accessible graphic form.

Information is available on jitter, packet loss on the channel, as well as MOS.

Simple, clear and convenient, the main thing is that it is available NOT to a technical person.

    CommView (application)

Developer - TamoSoft. I would call it commercial Wireshark, the applications are quite similar in appearance and in terms of information display, however, CommView has some “specialization” specifically for VoIP.
The main tab displays all active sessions, even showing whether the IP address belongs to any country. For example, you can see that the SIPNET server (212.53.40.40) is marked with the Czech flag :)

The RTP VoIP Flows tab will show complete information about the connections, plus voice quality analysis (MOS and R-factor parameters).

The VoIP Station tab shows all active connections, by the way, it turned out that our test server had a friendly scanner, but this is most likely an online service for assessing the quality of the channel.

The VoIP Registration tab shows successful and unsuccessful authorization requests.

The application is commercial, costs 36,000 rubles, but there is a trial version for 30 days. A huge plus is the visibility and ease of development, after Wireshark just "the eye rests." I was pleased with the support of the Russian language, and it is just fitness for VoIP.

    Wireshark (app)

Wireshark is probably the most popular product in terms of traffic analysis, and this popularity is most likely due to free. Typically, in VoIP this product is used for signaling analysis, but today we will consider the functionality in terms of voice quality analysis.
All that we are interested in is in the Telephony section. The Telephony-SIP section, here you can track calls in real time and ...

see the process of establishing a call in graphical mode.

The Telephony-RTP section displays voice streams, from useful statistics there are jitter and packet loss.

Pros - the application is free, cons - there are no convenient graphical representations and statistics.

    VoIP Spear (online service)

http://www.voipspear.com is a shareware service for monitoring channel quality in terms of VoIP.

In free mode, it can monitor traffic for the last 6 hours, only one point. Measures MOS, delay and packet loss. There is an advanced functionality for money, including sending notifications.

    VoIP Monitor (online service)

http://www.voipmonitor.org is a pretty cool thing, which is most likely designed for telecom operators. It is installed on its server and collects a bunch of parameters.
The trial for 30 days is free, then from 42 USD per month for 10 channels. You can subscribe to the cloud service - 20 USD per month for 3 channels.

There are a lot of monitoring parameters with notifications, we need the MOS and packet loss there.

In total, if the business is heavily tied to telephone communications (I think that for companies with a load of 30 simultaneous calls), you just need to have such a thing. A bunch of settings, a lot of notifications, pleased with the built-in anti-food. Minus - in order to configure all this you need to be well versed in the topic of VoIP.

    StarTrinity SIP Tester (app)

The application is positioned primarily as a call generator, but is also suitable for our purposes. The free version includes 150 attempts to make calls from the application and 50 simultaneous calls in terms of load.

In order to start a test call you need to register at least one number on the PBX. Then you can run Outgoing Call Simulation (top menu)

The application will dial the specified number, you need to talk a little with it (with the application), after which it will give out detailed statistics on the call (there is MOS).

By the way, 3CX is on the list of supported IP PBXs.

You can download 3CX Phone for Windows on the site 3CX.RU.
Please note that 3CX Phone only works with its own 3CX Phone System for Windows PBX .
