Snom C520 and C52 - space design and great features

It's no secret that all modern business is very much dependent on the sustainability and quality of communications. Therefore, specialized devices that provide the best quality teleconferencing are always in great demand in the market.

Today we will talk about two Snom devices that will help you make remote communication with colleagues as simple, convenient and efficient as possible.

    Snom C520-WiMi

Usually the most interesting and advanced solutions are either at the junction of two technologies, or at the same time combine them in themselves. So, Snom engineers in their new C520 conferencing module combined several modern technologies at once. As a result of this synergy, an interesting product appeared on the market with advanced features and an elegant design.

    But first things first.

Snom C520 combines two wireless data transfer technologies - DECT and Bluetooth. Thanks to this combination, the C520 is almost the ideal device for conference calls. Even if employees are on different floors or at different ends of a large office, this module will help to easily establish mutual communication and conduct negotiations, a meeting or a “brainstorming” even in a rather large room, and participants will not have to gather closely around the device to be heard well interlocutors at the other end of the line.

    Design

The Snom C520 conferencing module is made in a housing made of durable high-quality plastic and resembles a futuristic spaceship in its appearance. With the lights off, the resemblance to a spaceship that has landed on a planet is further enhanced. Three supports with damping pads provide high stability of the module, it does not slip on the table and it is impossible to brush it off with a flick of the wrist.

To control the operating modes of the module, bright LED indicators are placed on the case. Taking a look at the device, you can quickly understand which functions are involved and which operating modes are active.

Snom C520 is equipped with three high-quality and sensitive microphones, two of which are wireless. Installed inside the conference module, the main microphone in combination with powerful speakers provides full duplex communication.

Wireless microphones connect to the base station using DECT. They can be carried up to a distance of 50 meters. Thanks to this, maximum freedom of communication with any conference participant is achieved even in the most spacious or crowded rooms. Built-in batteries guarantee reliable operation up to 12 hours in active mode and up to 70 hours in standby mode.

Thanks to the automatic control of speaker volume and microphone sensitivity, modern noise reduction algorithms and the elimination of local effectswith adaptive feedback, there’s no need for conversation participants to raise their voice. During testing, the speech was perfectly audible to all interlocutors at the other end of the line, even if the speaker was a few meters from the C520 and spoke without raising his voice.

    Convenience in work

The module is equipped with a contrasting three-line matrix LCD with backlight. Its resolution (158x57 pixels) is enough for comfortable work with the system. All navigation on the device’s menu and phonebook is carried out using the usual four-button joystick. Also, all settings can be controlled using the built-in password-protected web server.

When using the phone function, the display shows the date and time, as well as the duration of the call. To find out with whom the connection is established, the subscriber identification function helps. There is also a local phone book with 200 numbers with the ability to quickly copy the caller ID. An alphanumeric search will help you find the contact you need easily. The phone automatically remembers the last 10 dialed numbers and which you can quickly redial.

The built-in synthesizer generates 10 ringtones, of which 4 are polyphonic.

For speech processing, the device uses the modern G.722 wideband HD codec. It provides a very clear sound of the voice and accurate transmission of emotions and nuances of speech. The Snom C520 supports three SIP identifiers with simultaneous call control. Plus, using DECT and Bluetooth, you can easily connect compatible devices to the system, significantly expanding its capabilities. In particular, via Bluetooth, for example, you can use both a smartphone and a headset, or connect a laptop.

If you find little coverage for the C520, you can easily expand them using a variety of optional equipment. For example, to sound large halls, powerful C52 wireless modules can be connected to the C520.

Snom C52-SP - Independent Forward and Team Player

The design of the C52-SP is completely “in tune” with the C520: a squat star with the same “space” contours. The speakerphone does not have a display, as well as dial buttons - this is a passive satellite.

As mentioned above, the Snom C520 conferencing module and the Snom C52-SP speakerphone complement each other perfectly, providing a comfortable and efficient conference in large halls. Using DECT technology in combination with a powerful battery allows you to connect up to three Snom C52-SP speakerphones located on the Snom C520, each of which can be moved up to 50 meters from the C520.

Here are some examples of using the C520 + C52 bundle.

    Conference call between several rooms:

Conference call in a large room:

Or even in a large room with separate tables:

At the same time, the C52 has an advantage over the C520 - the speakerphone is equipped with a battery and can work completely wirelessly. This is convenient if conference calls are spontaneously held in different rooms or in very large rooms. In such situations, you can simply carry the C52 and place it on any suitable surface, even on the floor. A fully charged battery allows you to work with the device for 12 hours in active mode or up to 70 hours in standby mode.

C52 can also be used as a standalone device - using the Snom A230 DECT dongle, this speakerphone is connected directly to the phone.

We insert the dongle into any Snom phone of the D7xx and D3xx series, on the C52 we press the Registration button, and that's it, the speakerphone is connected. Now it’s enough to press the headset button on the phone itself, and you can make conference calls, taking the C52 to a distance of 25 meters.

The C52 + A230 bundle is very convenient if you have a small office, or you do not need to arrange conference calls often, or if the capabilities of the C520 are redundant for you.

In terms of sound quality and speech recording, C52-SP is not inferior to the “elder comrade” C520: during testing, the voices of all participants were equally well audible and as legible as possible. There was no annoying echo or whistle in the process of communication, the speech of colleagues was always so clearly and clearly heard as if the interlocutor was nearby.
