SAFEDATA data center: three in one. Chronicles of Migration

SAFEDATA data centers will not be affected by emergency situations. They are designed so that they can function in almost any environment.

Data centers are the core business of SAFEDATA, the operator of its own distributed network of data centers and an IT outsourcing service provider. The SAFEDATA group, which today includes the Data Storage Center, the Center for Virtualization Technologies, the CDN operator NGENIX and the operator of the traffic exchange platform MSC-IX, owns a network of data centers built in accordance with the requirements of international standards TIA-942 (TIER III). Our company is the only player in the market combining businesses in three main segments - data centers, traffic exchange and content delivery.

Network of data centers SAFEDATA. Network infrastructure and power are reserved on an N + 1 basis. SAFEDATA data centers are connected to MMTS-9 and MMTS-10, as well as to points of traffic exchange MSK-IX.

The data center “Moscow-I” has two independent energy inputs. Uninterruptible power supply is provided by four Emerson Network Power UPSs of 800 kVA each, four FG Wilson diesel-generator sets of 1250 kVA with battery life up to eight hours without refueling. Power distribution systems are based on Schneider Electric equipment. The precision air conditioning system is designed to separate cold and hot air flows and uses Hiref cabinet air conditioners and Geoclima chillers. This equipment is redundant according to the N + 1 scheme. The data center has been working without interruption for more than seven years.

The Moscow-II data center is also powered by two independent power inputs. It uses eight 1680 kVA Hitec Power Protection diesel-rotary uninterruptible power supplies. The battery life of the UPS is at least 20 hours. To increase reliability, they are reserved according to the N + 1 scheme. Data center power distribution systems are based on Schneider Electric equipment. Hiref precision air conditioners, Guntner external condensing units and a hot / cold air separation system ensure that the necessary IT climate conditions are maintained. The entire air conditioning system is reserved according to the N + 1 scheme.

Both data centers use a Hladon 227 gas-based fire extinguishing system, a mobile smoke removal system. Protected premises and territory, organizational procedures for access control in the data center, differentiation of physical access based on proximity cards, a video surveillance system inside and outside the data center provide physical security and access control.

    Data centers "Moscow-I" and "Moscow-II".

" Moscow II of- » ranked second in the ranking of the largest data centers in the number of commissioned in 2013-2014. rack-space compiled by CNews Analytics. SAFEDATA provides services for the placement, maintenance and rental of IT resources (rack rental, hosting, rental of dedicated and virtual servers, data storage services), IaaS and SaaS cloud services , as well as services for organizing communication channels and Internet access, protection against DDoS- attacks.

SAFEDATA pays special attention to the reliability and security requirements. The company's data centers belong to the category of data storage and processing centers with a secure network infrastructure and are designed to serve customers with high requirements for the reliability of equipment operation, bandwidth of communication channels and information protection. In April 2015, the company received the certificate “Information Security Management System - ISO / IEC 27001: 2013”, which confirms full compliance with the requirements of the ISO / IEC 27001: 2013 standard for the information security management system in relation to the process of placing client server equipment in SAFEDATA data centers.

In mid-January, a controlling stake in SAFEDATAbought the telecom operator Rostelecom. Together with the SAFEDATA group, the operator plans further development of a federal-level content storage and distribution network, including a geographically distributed data center network , which combines communication channels, traffic exchange points, content delivery systems, as well as network attack protection and traffic control systems. The experience of the SAFEDATA group of companies, combined with the federal reach of Rostelecom, will enable them to occupy leading positions in the field of outsourcing IT infrastructure, expand the range of cloud services for content providers and corporate clients.

SAFEDATA services based on its own data centers cover a wide range of services demanded by customers - from equipment deployment and physical and information security, backup and disaster recovery to IaaS and migration of services to the cloud.

SAFEDATA clients are large Russian and international companies and banks, system integrators and other companies that use information technology in their activities.

    Is it time to move?

The issue of migration of IT infrastructure to a commercial data center is of interest to many companies today. The benefits and advantages of such a step are most clearly demonstrated by real examples of such a "move". Summarizing them, there are several reasons that motivate customers to this step.

    1. Insufficient reliability of its own data center that does not meet the requirements of the business. For example, frequent power outages.
    2. Inability to expand the infrastructure due to existing restrictions on space and / or available capacity.
    3. Inability to reserve Internet channels due to the connection of additional operators. For example, business centers often limit the choice of provider to tenants.
    4. Risks of the existing solution: lack of disaster tolerance and insufficient physical safety of equipment, complex non-compliance with TIER III requirements, including power supply, cooling, fire extinguishing system, ACS and 24 * 7 service.
    5. High capital costs and the long construction time of your own data center.

And this is not a complete list. Migration itself is usually preceded by a thorough analysis of the market by the customer, and the process of transferring to the cloud infrastructure may require large-scale work that requires preparation of a new infrastructure: comprehensive testing, creating backups, horizontal scaling and integration of the infrastructure into the SAFEDATA service system. But even in this case, the move can be carried out without stopping the customer services.

For example, a large IT company that provides customers with a large number of online services has thus got rid of the problems of frequent power outages, the impossibility of expanding the infrastructure, and dependence on telecom operators present in the business center. After moving its IT infrastructure to the SAFEDATA data center, the customer received guaranteed power supply through two independent power inputs, which ensures uninterrupted operation of IT systems. In addition, it became possible to reserve Internet channels and expand IT infrastructure by leasing additional space for equipment.

As a result of migration to the SAFEDATA data center, a large retailer ensured the absence of a single point of failure at all levels of service provision, significantly reduced the scaling time (changes in the resource pool) - it decreased to one day. There was the possibility of flexible intensive development of IT infrastructure and the launch of additional services, fine-tuning the size of the infrastructure to the amount of resources consumed. In addition, risks have been reduced since SAFEDATA data centers meet the requirements of TIER III and are built in accordance with the international standard TIA-942.

A commercial bank chose the option of renting a SAFEDATA data center, taking into account the cost of work and services in comparison with the organization of its own site. This option met a number of requirements of the bank, including detailing the cost of installing, connecting and renting each rack, as well as reserving places for racks, ensuring uninterrupted (24x7) operation of the equipment, providing redundant uninterrupted power supply, access control to the bank equipment, video surveillance, security and fire alarm system, fire extinguishing system, round-the-clock duty of personnel, and even a separate system of cable channels (a separate cable channel for power cables, a separate channel for data cables, with optical and copper separated by a partition or laid in different channels). Migration was carried out with minimal downtime and without stopping critical business processes. At the appointed time, the equipment was dismantled, transported to the data center, installed in racks, connected to the local network and SAN.

    What does it give?

Customers benefit from this migration with new benefits and growth drivers. Moving to the data center , as a rule, provides cost reduction or more effective cost control, gaining access to IT resources in a short time and freeing up your own resources, increasing business efficiency and focusing on core activities, quickly entering new markets, reducing project implementation time and getting access to IT management expertise in the absence of their own personnel.

SAFEDATA data center means guaranteed security and uninterrupted operation of data centers, presence of leading telecom operators on the sites, system maintenance and service, service and efficiency (personal account manager, ServiceDesk), quick start of customer projects, comfortable financial load and cost optimization, and also monitoring and maintenance of all life support systems of data centers in 24x7x365 mode. In all data centers, SAFEDATA specialists are on duty, who are always ready to carry out work on the maintenance, configuration and configuration of customer systems. More than 19 telecom operators and their own fiber optic lines provide the ability to connect any telecom operator.

The data center uses professional building envelopes, modern access control and video surveillance systems. Compliance with the requirements of FZ-152 and PCI DSS is ensured. If necessary, disaster-proof solutions can be created in distributed data centers. “My Account” provides customers with tools for managing and monitoring cloud services. This makes it possible to obtain IT resources "on demand" at the right time and in the required volumes. Russian companies and organizations are beginning to not only theoretically understand the advantages of commercial data centers, but also to extract them in practice. A growing number of success stories of the cloud-based IT consumption model is contributing to a further increase in the number of customers interested in such services.
