HTC One dual sim - the epitome of versatility

The presence of two SIM-cards in one device has long been associated with a touch of "budget", and in general did not add points to the model in question. Nevertheless, the demand for such devices did not think to fall, and gradually a solid number of smartphones got support for two cards from different operators.

Despite the differences in brand, price category and functional saturation, all of them were similar in one important feature - the inability to work with two active SIM-cards. New from HTC, which has become a direct continuation of the flagship HTC One, is devoid of this and many other shortcomings, being an almost unique offer in its class.

In fact, HTC One dual sim is the only device of this level, equipped with two SIM card slots, officially imported into the Russian Federation and widely represented in retail chains. This state of affairs makes it necessary to impose special requirements on the new product, but it is difficult to find a usage scenario that One dual sim would not be able to handle.

It may seem that the outwardly original HTC One and its “dual SIM” version are exactly the same. In principle, it is, the arrangement of functional elements has not changed, but the proportions have remained the same. Is that the place of a sliding slot for a single SIM-card took a convenient switch. To unlock and remove the back cover, just slide it a little forward, and a series of neatly located and carefully signed slots will open for your attention.

As usual, the SIM card in the second slot is limited to the 2G range, while the main card does not interfere with the potential display, because the first connector supports 3G and all wireless data transfer technologies that comply with this standard.

The most attentive may notice that the manufacturer has prepared another pleasant surprise - a slot for microSD memory cards! There is no catch, in addition to 32 GB of internal memory, familiar from the “regular” One, you can carry up to 64 GB of information on removable media.

The device became the smallest heavier (156 gr. Versus 143 gr.) And a few tenths of a millimeter thicker, but in tiny days these tiny differences are not felt at all. But the quality of the assembly is constantly pleasing. Despite the fact that the aluminum back cover has become removable, the smartphone still feels a monolithic bar and does not allow itself the slightest squeaks, backlashes and other defects.

The platform and set of components have not undergone significant changes. “Under the hood,” Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 is also working, operating at frequencies up to 1.7 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory are installed (about 26 GB are available to the user). The graphics accelerator is Adreno 320, so you don’t have to worry about performance in modern demanding games and "heavy" applications.

The most important component, according to the results of acquaintance with which the first impression is formed, is the display. Moreover, it is with him that the user will interact most of the time spent with the device, so it is very difficult to overestimate the importance of choosing a matrix and screen technology.

Like One, the screen here is one of the best on the market. A record pixel density of 468 ppi at Full HD resolution with a 4.7-inch diagonal allows for unrivaled picture clarity. With viewing angles, as usual, there are no problems. For good visibility in the sun, excellent color reproduction, brightness and contrast, you should thank the used Super LCD3 technology.

It remains only to insert cards into the appropriate slots, and you can turn on the phone. An excellent update to Android 4.2.2 was released not so long ago, so it makes sense to immediately start checking OTA updates if the device that you got in your hands works on the first version of Android Jelly Bean.

One of the most noticeable differences in the Sense 5 shell after upgrading to a more “fresh” version of Android will definitely be the chic “curtain” of quick settings, redesigned and supplemented compared to the basic version of the “bare” Android 4.2.x.

Using this element, you can not only instantly go to the corresponding settings section, but also activate or deactivate wireless interfaces. In addition, some items support several consecutive taps, allowing, for example, to quickly adjust the brightness of the screen. Another positive feature is the ability to assign the Menu button to a long press on the Home touch button, getting rid of the annoying strip at the bottom of the screen.

But all these nice little things are available on other devices as well, just run the update manager and, if there is an available update, install it on your device. It’s much more interesting to figure out how much support for two active SIM cards has affected the phone’s perception.

The settings item responsible for managing wireless networks is familiar to us from previous models, but it’s unusual to see it in the flagship device at first. Nevertheless, you have at your disposal a full range of options for prioritizing, changing ranges and tracking activity. Everything is duly duplicated for each card, and this is also true for applications that work with SMS messages and contacts.

By the way, the standard program for working with SMS has acquired such an interesting thing as the “secret box”. In principle, this is the usual password-protected storage for selected messages, but now for its full use you do not need to install any additional programs.

Applications for working with multimedia are also executed at a traditionally high level. Like the “regular” One, the device with two SIM cards can record HDR-video in 1080p quality at speeds up to 30 frames per second, and for recordings in HD format an increase in frame rate up to 60 is provided.

We enclose examples of videos obtained using various shooting modes:

We also consider it necessary to add examples of pictures taken on a smartphone to our story: Undoubtedly, the battery life in the presence of two radio modules in a phone with a quad-core processor and FullHD display is one of the issues that almost immediately arises on the agenda. There is nothing to worry about - a day, or even more, is guaranteed even with very active use, and the device did not fail in a specialized test.

So what is the bottom line? Great ideas embedded in the original device were further developed. With HTC One dual sim, users can rely on the power of the flagship and the convenience of two SIM cards in one bottle. Even if you have to regularly answer calls to one or another number or simply carry a large amount of heterogeneous information with you, One dual sim will perfectly adapt to your needs and will please you more than once at home, on the road and in any other conditions.
