It starts without reboots and dual boot, directly from Meego in the chroot environment. Spent about an hour to install and configure, everything is pretty transparent. If the developer – mode is not already active on your phone, you will need to enable it. After that, you can play with the terminal by installing apt – get Midnight Commander, nano and something else. A full ssh client is already available. Now we install the MeeCatalog application from the OVI store with an icon in the form of a Debian squiggle - this is a repository catalog compiled by the community. We launch and connect the Community Share Repository in it, update the cache and install easy – deb – chroot 1.1.0. and inception. inception is a hack for Meego Harmattan that runs the scripts needed to run Debian (opensh and aegisctl). We take the archive with them from here . Install Xmimd, this is a virtual keyboard for a touchscreen, you can use a bluetooth keyboard, if any. As a system image, it is advised to use the scientific Debian for Arm, as the most stable. I installed Lenny, but there are also Squeeze and Wheezy. It is all here . Under the user, unpack the image in / home / user / MyDocs. At this place I had a small plug, because I first did this from root. Now you can tap on the FixDebimg icon and try to start the system, this is possible both from the chroot terminal and tap on the Debian LXDE icon that appears.

After installation, immediately available: OpenOffice, Iceweasel / Firefox (with Java and Flash), Icedove / Thunderbird, GIMP, Evince (reads PDF, PS and DVI), Leafpad text editor, Synaptic package manager, PC Man file manager, Open Java, Python 2.6.6, sound support & tools. Also: Abiword, Gnumeric, Geany and gedit programming text editors, gFTP, TeXMaker / TeX, Maxima / wxMaxima and Yacas CAS (Computer Algebra System), Python tools (IPython, NumPy, MatPlotLib, Sympy, etc), gcc / g ++ 4.4 .5, make, dpkg – dev, etc.

This was all invented by great fellows, guys from maemo.org, their forum has a thread with a very detailed manual.

If you succeed, the phone will become a pocket industrial computer with Debian power, full access to the file system, Debian repositories and almost unlimited possibilities. It works quite smartly, Meego does not affect the overall performance and functionality, during the testing of the system I answered calls several times. In the picture - the launched GIMP and the menu from the LXDE panel.
