Enforta carries WiMAX to regions
The Prestige-Internet company ( Enforta trademark ) announced its intention to commission WiMAX networks in six Russian cities - Voronezh, Lipetsk, Penza, Samara, Tula and Yaroslavl. This will happen, according to the plans of the operator, in the 2nd quarter of 2007. By the end of 2007, the company intends to be present in 32 cities of Russia. Currently, Enforta networks are operated in 18 cities of the country, including Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Prestige-Internet is a subsidiary of the Dutch company Enforta BV. According to Prime-TASS, At the beginning of this year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) joined the Enforta shareholders. The owners of Enforta, in addition to the EBRD, are Sumitomo Corporation, Baring Vostok Capital Partners, and company managers. It is expected that the holding's turnover in 2007 will be about $ 30 million.
The Russian Enforta, founded in October 2003, has the task of providing broadband access services in the country's regions based on the WiMAX standard and other technologies. Currently, the company’s customer base includes about 7,000 corporate clients.
According to Kommersant, the Prestige-Internet branch in Samara is already open. Oleg Tynov, marketing and product director of the company, noted that Enforta is going to provide 70% of the coverage in this city (but not outside it). Initially, corporate clients will be served - federal banks, retailers Euroset and Svyaznoy, etc., but by the end of the year there will be offers for individuals.
Experts note the desire of large providers in the regions as a trend. In their opinion, what is happening on the wireless access market has already been observed in the fixed and mobile communications segment. In the capitals, it’s becoming harder for “big business” to work, so regional expansion begins.
But, while in most cities, operators have just begun building networks, the Samara WiMAX infrastructure has been operating for two years. Experts believe that Enfortu in the city will face competition from at least two competitors - MetrMax and MCC-Volga operators (MegaFon).
