British authorities threaten to storm Ecuadorian embassy

The British authorities can go on the assault of the Embassy of Ecuador in London, if its employees do not extradite the founder of the site WikiLeaks Julian Assange. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ricardo Patinho at a press conference in Quito. According to him, a similar threat is contained in the message of the British government, transmitted to the Ambassador of Ecuador in London.

“You must be aware that the British law of 1987 on the premises of diplomatic and consular missions gives us legal grounds to take actions aimed at arresting Mr. Assange at the embassy,” said a letter from the British authorities published on the website of the government of Ecuador.

In addition, the message notes that “the use of the embassy’s premises for purposes contrary to the Vienna Convention cannot continue”, the shelter of the WikiLeaks founder from the police can have serious consequences for the diplomatic relations of the two countries, the Press Association reports.

Ecuador’s Foreign Minister regarded this promise as "Aggressive unfriendly act", contrary to generally accepted international standards, and promised that the leadership of his country would take all measures to prevent their violation.

The Minister also said that the Ecuadorian government today already around 07:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time) will unveil the decision on the issue of granting political asylum to Julian Assange.

More than one and a half months have passed since the shelter of the founder of the Wikilix Internet portal at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Assange asked the diplomatic mission to provide him with political asylum on the pretext that he was being subjected to political persecution.
