Today, Sedo, the largest company providing services for the purchase and sale of domains and sites, published an analysis of the prospects of new top-level domains. The author of the analysis is Tees Lindenthal, an economist and researcher in the domain industry. He is also Head of Pricing at Sedo and the creator of idnx, the domain price index.
The results of this study will help determine which of the new top-level domains is most profitable to invest their time and material resources.
“Many factors can make a domain unique, and these factors are difficult to correlate with each other, but analysis of hundreds of thousands of domain transactions in the Sedo market allowed us to develop effective methods for valuing a domain as real estate and identify the factors that have the greatest impact on the cost of domains ... New domains top level are not something special. These are just “ordinary domains on steroids,” and you need to apply the same evaluation methods to them as with any other domain names, ”Lindenthal writes.
Domain prospectivity is determined by a formula that takes into account five criteria that most affect the value of a domain:
1. The number of applicants for new gTLDs
2. The number of Google search results for keywords that are part of the domain name.
3. The expected “cost per click” in advertising services, if you enter the domain name as a keyword in them.
4. The number of registered domains in the zone. COM, which include the name of the new gTLD, located at the end. For example, the domain MyShop.com, can be compared with the future domain My.Shop.
5. The number of pre-registrations in new zones according to UnitedDomains.com
“Importance” of each of the criteria was determined by the method of regression analysis based on many years of experience selling domain names in Sedo.
