Kerbal Space Program

Recall that there are games that not only take time, but also teach something useful, and make it interesting! Kerbal Space Program is a game whose goal is to design a rocket and launch it successfully!

An excellent editor of the spacecraft allows you to appreciate the advanced physical model of the game, it is also necessary to monitor the fuel level and engine temperature. After all, after a few trial and error, you probably can still escape from the atmosphere, but what about going into orbit or flying to the moon?

This game perfectly illustrates the words of Raf Coster from The Theory of Fun for Game Design:“Fun from games arises out of mastery. It arises out of comprehension. It is the act of solving puzzles that makes games fun. In other words, with games, learning is the drug. ” In other words, the puzzle in the game is a physical model, our goal is to solve it and launch the ship into space, that is, solve the puzzle. Restrictions, i.e. the rules by which we will solve it are the properties of the spacecraft. And since the physical model is based on reality, and the context in which the puzzle is wrapped is quite informative, in the end we get “learning is the drug”.

At the moment, the project is in an active stage of development, in the future, developers plan to add a full-fledged single-player campaign with space exploration, etc. The game also supports custom modifications.

One YouTube comment that inspired the creation of this post: “I showed this video to my little sister now she wants to penetrate the sky when she grows up ^^.” In the future, such games will occupy a worthy place in the educational process along with books. For how many books now it is very difficult to fight for the attention of children in a huge field of diverse media available to them right during the lesson on a smartphone.
